I've spent the last few days playing with BackTrack 3.0. For those not familiar Backtrack is a linux security distribution. Not only does it contain an operating system based off of Slackware but also a boatload of tools for auditing network security.

So I managed to install it on a laptop and almost have it running on a USB drive. The system runs pretty well although I can tell it is a beta version. I would expect the final to be out in the next few months.

The CD is also live which means you can boot and run it without installing anything to your computer. When you finish, you reboot, pull the CD and you are back to whatever you had going previously.

Ahhh, the fun of linux distros. I think the enjoyment is the challenge of getting everything to work and then move on to another.

I'm running it on a laptop that I use around the house as the main OS. I also use the USB at work for our wireless network testing. There are so many tools you can get lost but mainly I end up spoofing my own mac and using kismet.
