Just bought our son a Gateway Laptop (MT3422) for Christmas. Pluged it in to charge battery and intailize it.
Worked like a top. Got on the net via our wireless router.
But when I down loaded updates from MS for windows
I cant get on the net anymore.
Its loaded with Vista home premium.
Still says its getting a excellent Wifi signal.
Help..........Dennis

Msta: Got to the repair window, ran the repair. Said "problem resolved".
Went back to internet explorer, with same results. "Cannot display this webpage"
Thanks for the help. Any other ideas?
Am waiting on a email from my techno-geek, whos spending the winter in Hawaii.

make sure the wifi you are connecting to has an internet connection, some in our area do not, also check to see if the wifi you are connecting to is not locked. If either of these is the problem just select a different wifi connection and click on connect.

I'm not tremendously famliar with Vista however have done a little beta testing. *I'm not 100% however I think you have to add networks as a trusted entity with Vista. *You can find out if you have an IP address which would indicate the wireless network has accepted your laptop as a network device and given it an id. *If this is the case, you are half way there. *Check for some security settings that allow your SSID to be accepted by Vista. *If I get time, I'll try and set up a laptop tomorrow and emulate your issue.

P.S. I found this which sounds a lot like your issue. Let us know if it works:

Thanks all:
Got it up and working. Went into restore to an earlier date. Went back to the time the laptop arrived via U.P.S..
Think there was something in one of the windows updates that buggered things up..
I guess downloading 29 up dates at one time was not a great idea.
Thanks for the help.......Dennis

The general consensus from the people I know who use Windows is that you should upgrade it to Windows XP. Vista just isn't ready for prime time yet.

The laptop I'm on now is about a year old and loaded with XP. I'm comfortable with it, but you buy something new it comes with Vista. Wish you had an option.
Dont think Vista was ready for the market, guess alot of folks share my opinion.
