Dialup here...lately, since my hard drive died, I've had to dump cookies and everything cached every time I disconnect/reconnect so it can take a long time for a forum like this one to load. :-/

Satellite (Hughesnet) - no ISDN, cable, or DSL available. Lucky to have a phone, I guess.

i use a cingular wireless air card on my laptop. it will not work in areas with no cellphone service. we were lucky to get another tower close by so i ditched the land line phone/dial-up & stuck with this.

i hear the sierra card is faster but this one does what i need since i dont download much stuff. at home i get about 200kps upload & 80kbs download. since i travel for work sometimes its been really nice to have. i have gotten speeds up to 350kbs or so in big cities. $59 a month for it though with unlimited data.

DSL here. Switched over from cable once Comcast bought our local cable provider, and we will NOT be Comcast slaves.

I download a lot, so i like a fast-ish connection and lots of drive space.

Just ditched Charter Cable "high speed" and got AT&T DSL. It's way faster and half the price at 20 bucks a mo. I did have to fork over for the modem, but I'll get it back when I mail the rebate form.

Dial-up through Juno here.
But... most colleges and technical schools will allow you access to highspeed Internet for a minimal amount (sometimes nothing if you are older... or really cute... or can talk the skin off a...).

But there is a trick that most people do not know about... and it still works all over the country because people don't abuse it often:
Every semester, for about a two week period, most intranet school systems can be accessed by using the Student:Student method.
Because so many new students are entering the school system and password problems are so common, most schools set up an ID account for Student, with a password that is simply student.

Use with restraint and common sense (don't download songs etc).
I use this four times per year to download larger files.
*
BTW: There is nothing "illegal" about using such a resource, I have talked to a local tech about it because I am within the Wi-Fi of a local college.
But you must adhere to all restrictions (no porn etc) and be "nice".
Do not download copywritten materials as the school is responsible for all users.
It is great for downloading large pdf files that can not be done with dial-up. *

I had RoadRunner which was great. When we moved, only DSL was available so we migrated. It works fine although the speeds are about 1/4th of our previous setup and the price is about $6.00 more a month. I'm not sure I could ever go back to dial up.

My cellphone works as a modem thanks to PdaNet software. I can connect anywhere that my phone works. Just a onetime fee of about $30.00 and free internet as long as I pay my phonebill.

It's faster than dial up, but slower than wifi. If I need wifi I can take my laptop to the library for free service, but I have never needed to, since I got PdaNet.

Local high-speed wireless, and I would never go back to dial-up.

We don't get comcast or att or any of those out here, and I'm glad we don't - the bigger companies have horrendous customer service.

Lucky Dawg... ;)

Not exactly cheap...$40.00 a month...there's only one choice for DSL here. :-X I'm starting a couple new websites and needed the better connection again.
The DSL router they supplied is 12volt...so that's pretty convenient!

Totally Micro$oft-free for one year as of today! ;D

Things are lookin' up! LOL

Dial up. ONLY. DSL service is a disaster out here-folks I know with DSL hate it-always down, Centurytel has a long list of excuses why it is NEVER their fault, and they generally have a bad attitude. I dumped them and went with toast.net. Works great, faster than previous. I don't do music, or anything that require high transfer speeds, so this is fine.
