Well I've been doing all my surfin with firefox but I can't get any JAVA to work. So I was trying to download the plug in and firefox would say it was installed but it wouldn't be. So I decided to check and see if it was working in IE. Well IE will open at the homepage "about blank" but it wont go anywhere I put addresses in the address bar or try to click on my favorites and it wont go anywhere, just stays at "about Blank" and when I close the window I still get the error message.

Lets start from scratch:
What is your operating system?
What version of IE do you have installed?

Okay I originally didn't have JAVA so I downloaded a JAVA player from the internet, that's when I started have IE problems. So I used the add/remove programs function and followed the directions in the control panel and removed JAVA. JAVA is gone but IE is still malfunctioning. It wont work at all when I am logged on on the WIFI. I did get it to work when I went on with NETZERO at mom's house but it still gives error message and shuts down whenever I close a window. I have Windows 2000 Professional installed. This is an old IBM ThinkPad 770X. The IE is 6 sp1. And I still want JAVA to work on my firefox browser. When it didn't work yesterday I also went through the process of restore and fix IE that was in my add/remove programs, it also did not help.

I guess the easiest way would be the following. I would download and install the following two programs:
AdAware
Spybot - Search and destroy

They can be found at http://www.downloads.com and are free. There are versions you can purchase but for your needs, just get the free versions.
Install and update each separately.
Run each and make sure you don't have anything causing the issues like spyware.
Once you are clear for those two, try a complete reinstall of the latest version of IE 6.

I know thats a ton of things to do but 9 times out of 10, that process works for me. I also have a remote desktop type session you can initiate and I can look at your computer for you. You don't have to install anything and you can watch the entier session. Let me know if that interests you down the line and we'll set something up.
