I have a problem with my IE browzer, whenever I close a window I get a message that IE has encountered a problem and must shut down. This only started happening after I installed a java player. I have googled and found that quite a few people are having this problem, but haven't found a fix. Any suggestions?

annabella1, I'm not sure if this will help, but try the free scan at this site. It might pin point the problem:

http://www.dllfix.org/?key=Java+Update+Errors+Fixed&t=66

~~~
Updated to add: I found the above link by searching for "Internet Explorer" and "Java errors". I decided before telling you to try it, I should try it myself.
What I got was a little program that quickly downloaded, and about 10 minutes later, it had finished examining my hard drive. If found more than 1,200 problems with my PC. :P
Then it took me to the link where they're selling software for about $40 bucks to help clean off the junk. I'm considering doing it, but not until after I do some more research about how good the stuff really is.
So the free scan might not give you any information - - - or then again, it might. Scanning my setup didn't seem to hurt anything, but I can't say I like knowing I have all that junk on board! ;D
Thankyou for the link, but it didn't help. It said I had 489 errors and the trial version could fix 67 of them so I let it, but it didn't fix the error I'm having. What I'm doing right now is instead of closing windows in IE I am minimizing them or avoiding windows I can't use the back button on. It is frustraiting to forget and click on the "x" and have to start all over. It even gives me the error message when I am done surfing and exit to go off line.
Uninstall the Java player see if you get the same error, if you don't after you uninstall it try the install again. make sure you are up to date with software and make sure you have the latest version of Java.
After all that download and use Firefox for a web browser more stable and secure than IE
Be sure to delete the program from the link I sent. I found it has an annoying habit of using up memory when I first boot up - I hate that in any program I haven't told to do something for me! :P It may be as bad as what it proposes to fix! (But I sure hope not!)
I tried deleting the java player and it is still doing it. I already have firefox installed, but it is not my default browser. I also like to save sites to work on offline and don't know how to do that in firefox. Another thing IE is doing is when I work on a site off line it tells me 4 or 5 times that the site is not available offline but it is there when it is telling me that and I have to keep hitting stay offline, untill it finally gives up. I do like the firefox set up and would like to make it my default browser, I am online with netzero and when I connect it automatically brings up IE.
PS I did delete that other program too.
I can just suggest downloading a program called AdAware and a Anti Virus software. Both of them can be found for free (legal!) on the internet.
The program which charges 40$ ususally is a kind of hoax trying to convince you to buy the software even though you don't even have a problem.
Adaware works well, also Spybot Search and Destroy. They can both be found at http://www.downloads.com .
Additionally, I would check what version of IE you are running and update it accordingly. That may be the easiest fix. You can do this by connecting to the internet, open your IE browser, goto the tools menu item, and click on windows update. There may be a ton of updates available and you can get them all if you so desire however for this issue I would look specifically for IE related updates.
I don't have the problem in firefox. I get regular automatic updates for IE. This is becoming more and more frustrating. Today I was writing some email and after inserting addresses from my address book, it gave me the same annoying error message every time it automatically closed the address book. I finnally had to cut and paste the email address and minimize the address book just so I could finish writing the email.
when you first installed firefox it prolly asked you if you wanted to make it your default browser. if you open firefox & then go to tools/main you will see the box to check for making it your default browser.
have you thought about doing a system restore? that may be an easier way to fix this.
I made firefox my default browser but IE still comes up when I log into netzero.
i dunno but maybe there are some setting for net zero that you could change. another option is to delete java all together & let explorer re-install it when its needed. if this doesnt help i will see if there is a way to change the target command line. good luck!
Any suggestions?
If you're feeling real adventurous.....switch to Linux...especially a version that runs completely in RAM. (ie. Puppy or Damn Small).....Firefox or Opera...or even Dillo as a browser with some sites. You'll be amazed at how fast and trouble-free your computer can be.
I made firefox my default browser but IE still comes up when I log into netzero.
This has been a complaint for some time....NetZero is in bed with Microsoft....IE is the default.
I've heard that you can make Firefox the default by using the current version and forcing Firefox to request default status...but that's just hearsay.
Try a Scroogle search. http://scroogle.org/
I like that scroogle. I hadn't seen it before. It also has lots of people with the same problem but few solutions. Well we now have a wifi close enough to work so I don't need to use netzero here. I'll just continue to use firefox, and just use IE and netzero when I'm at my moms. Maybe MSN needs to get the message that they need a better browser.
