I hope this will get this new forum started.
I have more than one boat from a kayak to a 18' pontoon and use them all depending on the water I fish.
The potoon is really comfortable. It has a live well and a foot controlled trolling motor on the bow. Main power is an Evinrude 9.9 4-stroke. It has a Lowrance fish finder on the console and a Hummingbird on the trolling motor. I also have a mount for a small Garmin GPS.

That's where my fishing kayak works great. It weighs just 38 pounds so I can take it where I would have problems with a larger boat.

My first fishing boat was an 8' pram that I built from plywood in my basement. I kept measuring the outside door to make sure I could get it out. ;D I used plans I bought from somewhere. I saure wish we had powered screwdrivers back then! I got some nasty blisters from turning screws by hand. It did the job for a lot of years before rot got into it.
Sometimes you just have to use what you can afford and sometimes that is the best fishing boat of all.

Yep. Mine is so old most of the paint has peeled off the exterior......and she don't leak any faster than my trusty coffee can can keep up with..... ;D ;D ;D

I once fished with a guy who had a dual purpose coffee can. He used it for his chew for a while and then to bail out the boat, but we sure caught a lot of fish. ;)

That coffee can has other uses too! What led to the coffee can was me trying to rain on de fish one day and a fast approaching boat forced me to hide the snake rather quickly and falling outta the durn boat....... :o :o :o

I have a 14 foot jon-boat. About 12 years old, it and the trailor. Bought a new 15 hp Mercury electric start/with alternator 2 stroke motor in 2002 for it. Also have a couple year old foot operated trolling motor- minn-kota. Have raised front deck, and 2 bass fishing seats/both raised. Fishfinder is about 5 years old, and have new water temp gauge with thermomater installed on the bottom of the troll motor. Don't have live wells,,,, but have some nice spot lights on front for night fishing. Hey,,,,, can't have everythin I guess. Can use mine is some rivers, and most lakes. Sits a little low in the water for rivers around here,,,, but seems to do alright with some of these smaller lakes here!
Thinking of getting me one about 16 foot long and about 2 feet wider than the one I have one of these days, but wifey doesn't seem to be on the same level I am with it, ehh!
I have an old 14' jon boat that has an old 12 HP motor on it, but I use it mainly to set out trout lines. Very seldom do I use a pole off the side.
The boat had a folding top added to it which acts double duty, to keep the sun as well as the rain off you, but it only works stationary for the rain, as there are no sides. it is sun cracked & leaks some, but keeps the majority of water off.
it also has a coleman stove that sits perfectly as a replacement lid for what I assume was a built in deep well (or cooler, since it has no drain plug)
We use it mainly to go island camping, & it's great fun !!
Like I say, we may fish from the bank, or set out trout lines, but with the top up it would be almost impossible to cast from the boat.

My wife and I used to fish (with our five kids) from two old canoes. Once we became empty nesters, we sold one of the canoes and bought two kayaks. We tour, and fish from them (Paddled the UP in Michigan two years ago). then two summers ago, I bought an old beater of a boat. 14 foot starcraft, with a 25 horse Evinrude and trailer. I completely stripped the boat down, painted it. Put in floor, carpet, boxes, livewell, etc. Now we fish from both. It has a fishfinder too which is pretty cool. The twentyfive is a big honkin motor for a 14 foot boat, so I bought a 5.5 Johnson, which I think is a better match. I've got that 25, waiting for a good deal on a beatup pontoon boat. Like to get my hands on one that is a fixer upper and put that 25 on it.

Clawhammerdan: I see fixer upper pontoons every once in a while around Atwood Lake. In fact my neighbor down there sold one last spring for around $800. If I see one this year I'll PM you.

Thanks Starpup...sounds like just what I'm looking for. Can't see spending thousands on a boat when you can have just as much fun on one that only cost a couple hundred. :)

I fish from a used Jon boat. Got a really good deal on it during the winter. I picked up a used motor, that was of course the big expense.

I use an old 16' dargel scooter with a 90hp yamaha. It gets into the shallows real well and will run and get up in about a foot of water. The bays here are very shallow so to hit the good redfish spots you almost need a scooter.

I don't have a boat, but I guess the sense that you are not one of those cheater type of fisherman. I can't for the life of me figure out what is so alluring about using technology to find fish. Learn how to fish, people! Stop cheating!

We don't fish from a boat - unless our friend takes us out to the lake. We almost exclusively river fish - either spin or fly. However, we have decided to start fishing from shore at the local reservoir (at least until the run off on the rivers is done) - $25 for an annual pass, and with grocery prices continuing to go up - well a few trout every wekk would be pretty tasty!
