Hello to all,

I have not posted in a while.

I have just finished getting everything ready for my first archery hunt. I got a compound bow about a month ago and have got it sighted in with a 20 yard and a 30 yard pin. I am not comfortable with anything more than 20 yards so I moved my stand yesterday where the trail I have gun hunted for the past several years is right at 20 yards away.

I feel like a kid before Christmas. I have not been this excited about deer season in several years. Archery will be getting me in the woods about 5 weeks earlier than gun season. Where I hunt in Texas, I can only take a buck in gun season. In archery season I can get 2 does as well as the 1 buck.

I just hope I dont get too excited and miss.

With a bow you'll be much closer to your quary so make sure all movement takes place while the deer is looking elsewhere or it's vision of you is blocked. Make sure you sound proof your gear (bow, quiver, arrow rest, release, and STAND). Have fun and good luck.

I hope you will graduate to a recurve then a long bow , one of the purest forms of hunting.

Good luck, I was REintroduced to archery hunting two years ago, and got my first archery kill the first day. A nice fat doe, the last year, another nice fat doe one cold Oct. night. Sure does get you out a whole lot earlier and makes a good opportunity to get more deer in the freezer. Enjoy.

I hunted opening weekend and this morning and I have not seen one deer on my property. I have a feeder and they are not using it. I think the coons are eating the corn. I read the other day due to the spring rain that the acorn crop did great and deer as well as hogs will turn their nose up at corn if there are acorns.

I used to sit during gun seasons and see 5 or 6 does per day and not 1 buck, not even an inbred one horn buck :'(. Now that I got a bow and have learned to shoot it I am not seeing any deer at all ???. I am about to go out and hunt this evening, maybe I will get a shot at a deer.

I finally got a doe this evening!!!! ;D I had to make a shot a little over 30 yards and it hit home!

No joke I have had deer run twice as far hit in the same place with a 30.06. She ran about 40 yards and died.

My arrow went completely through her and was barely hanging on by the fletchings.

Congratulations on your archery kill! You mastered that bow pretty quick, and great results!

Congrats about your luck. Was she a big doe, weight wise that is?

Thank yall for the kind words!

She was not very big. I have a picture, I would post it if I could figure it out.

Some of the deer i've been seeing are pretty thin. This year's drought has been hard on them. Hope the acorn crop helps them out.

This is my first archery season too. Got a nice longbow and have been out 3 or 4 times and havent got anything. In fact stayed out all day yesterday. But I guess all of us can't get one the first try, eh?
