I just turned 60 this month and am finding out I have to prep a little bit more before the season starts. Is there anything that ya-all do before the season.?

Besides sighting in the guns, I am trying to better explore some "backup" areas. *
Last year we spent more time in the woods than any other year, but it became obvious in the snow that the deer were elsewhere. *We walked further and hunted longer but still saw nothin'. *
This year I am scoping out backup areas, parking and trails so when the deer move on, so can we.
Luckily, I love pouring over aerial photos and topo maps and the kids love trompin in the woods with me.

Archery comes in Oct 13. I got my bow out, just under 50 lb pull and luckily i can still pull it back. I didn't have time to shoot today but i did 10 reps, not dry fire, just released it easy with pressure. With the garden and canning, and mowing, time's scarce, but things should slow down soon and get some regular practice sessions in.
As far as other preparations, put corn in the feeder about the middle of September to get them fattened up.

I haven't bow hunted in 6 yrs. Sunday I decided to get the bow out and went to the range. Well lets say it wasn't a pretty sight at first but towards the ends it was almost respectable. Few more chances of pratice should bring the skills back. ;D ;D ;D

Scouting ,scouting and more scouting. ;D
Have not made time to practice or exercise. Bow season starts Oct 1 here. Vacation request is already made out for the first 14 days of October and November. Good hunting to all.

I've had my hunting license since I was in the 4th grade. (I'm now 30) You know I've never made it into the deer woods yet. So I guess my prep work this year is clearing the calender. lol

I just purchased some land last year and found out from last years hunt I needed to start walking up and down hill more before the hunt. I also have been doing a lot of bicycling. I blackpowder hunt so I also practice fast loading my Lyman 54 cal. I have also been scouting my property just about every week while adding a room to the cabin.

I really don't have to do much of anything spl. as i hunt my own property that i live on, and i see where the deer and turkeys are all year along.... In fact i've planted cover and also food plots to get them to stay close by, and to feel "right at home"....
Pretty much every day i see deer and turkeys right from my house and shop....

Good deal Flatwater, keep up the good work.
I'm about like you DM, in seeing plenty of of turkeys, lot of deer every day if i go into the woods. Don't seem to matter though, when season comes in they can disappear completely. This mystery of bedding areas and wind and reading sign and all that, geeze it's a lot to keep straight. I usually do okay though... thanks to dumb luck ;)....and a corn feeder ;)

Maybe here pretty quick it will start feeling more like hunting weather.
I went out Sunday evening and scouted some, it was hot for a little bit then it rained and cooled off.
I'm ready to get started again.
Squirrel season be on us in another month.
Any of you folks squirrel hunt ?
