DH has started trapping again (he did it in the 70's as a teen) since the fox/coyote population is so high around here and our homestead gets hit hard in the spring with predation.

I'd like to get him trapping 'stuff' for Christmas but not sure where to begin. Any good retail trapping websites??

do a search on ebay for trapping.
There is usually 1 or 2 people selling lure kits for coyotes or fox. with a couple bottles of lure and some urine........I bought one of those a couple years ago when I started trapping again.
Funkes is good I have delt with them before .
good luck

Thanks for the links!

Looking through them, I guess I'll have to either get into Paul's trapping stash and see what he doesn't have OR ask him directly (and ruining the surprise.)

http://www.Trapperman.com Go there and look around. There's a forum too, "traptalk". Plus there's lots of links to stuff for sale or trade etc.

Trapperman is far and away the best trapping site on the web!!!!!!

Trapping videos are a good choice gift wise, but vary widely in quality of content..........

Yup.
If I was trapping only canines, (coyote, fox, wolf) I would just put out snares, not use any footholds at all. But that's just me, I'm cheap.

snares are the way to go. light, cheap,no prep.,can make them the way you want, can take more out w/you.and you will not get your fingers ;D
a good site for trapping is www.traps4kids.com
they have a video for $20

When I was younger my fur buyer would dock snare caught critters.
You could almost always see a ring where the snare had been.
Also snares are only cheaper in the short term.
I have legholds 25+ years old that I could still take out and catch yotes with.

True, but fur buyers will dock you if you're left handed, or if it's a cloudy day lol. ;D
I was saying "all things considered" I would just snare. JMHO

nothing wrong with snares..........
It just seems that on survival type sites everyone pushes them as the ultimate tool..........whereas in reality they are just a tool, a throw away tool at that. They are good for some things and suck for others.
I really hate seeing people push snares on new trappers.
Altho in this thread a dozen snares would make a nice present since they are disposable.

The fly in the snare ointment is that they are not legal in many states/juristictions.
Personally, I'm opposed to any lethal set up, be it snares or conibears, on land.

Thanks guys!

Paul doesn't go online - I'm still trying to pull him into the 20th century!

I ordered him half dozen SLEEPY CREEK #3 COIL SPRING TRAPS

Think he'll like them??
