State and especially National park campgrounds (Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, etc) are LOUSY with tame deer. I've had to shoo them away from my vehicle before. They're protected, their natural enemies are in decline, so they overpopulate and are starving - far from the beautiful deer we're used to seeing in well-managed areas.
my closest neighbor has a pet buck that has a bright orange collar on it's neck. so noone kills it. it is his pet (the guys like 70) I went there once & it WOULD NOT let me in the gate. it was grunting & showing horns & stomping.. I wasnt stupid enough to try to sneak past him either !! but when Bob came out it was fine. Like a watch dog almost. while he was out there it let me pet it & feed it an apple, it ate right from my hands, & thats an awesome feeling. He ran off during last years rut, but he eventually returned & I see him daily when I go by. I think Bob said he was 3 this year, & he fears he will leave this rut season & not return. we were all amazed he returned last year.

Sometimes that humping thing is an act of dominance.
