What would be the reason for shooting that many?I hunt Elk once a year but I don't shoot 10 or 12.In Ca.you can do prison time for having starlings in a cage.-

Starlings and English Sparrows are legal and unprotected by the migratory songbird act. The reason for shooting them is that i have three purple martin boxes and bluebird boxes as well. Starlings like to take over the boxes and they kill any baby martins.

Penny, you did good. Don't let the nay sayers get to you. Starlings are distructive birds. They will drive off the song birds just by nesting in the area. I have seen this all my life. I also have seen thousands of these birds take up roosting in a certain tree/trees and you would not believe the noise and excretement on the ground under them. I too shoot them every chance I get. Hey, your turning out to be a pretty good shot!

Thanks Shadow and Rick. *You made me feel better but don't worry, *noboby is going to tell me right is wrong. * Your realistic attitude is most appreciated, you guys are the kind i'd want for friends in a survival situation. * I kill the ugly invaders so our native species has a chance. *Here's my purple martin set up.

This year i'm adding more houses and gourds because last year the houses were filled with 19 nesting pairs. *I'd encourage all homesteaders with an interest in birds to establish their own purple martin colony.

nice shooting. I dont blame you for killing them either. But I wouldnt suggest trying to eat them, unless in a SHTF kinda thing. In that instance I'm a firm believer Some kinda meat is better than NO Meat !!!
