As you might guess we had a wonderful Airedale named Star because she was born on a Christmas Eve. Unfortunately, she developed cancer last July and we had her put to sleep because she couldn't get up. She was only 5. :( That was the worst day of my life and I still shed tears when I think of her. We were together almost 24/7 and very close.
Star was a whizz on pheasants and would tree squirrels and flush just about anything I wanted to hunt.
Not many birds to hunt in Ohio these days so I'm thinking about either a rabbit hound or a treeing fiest.

Another Airedale fan here. I have 4 of them ranging in age from 3 to 12.5 years. Squirrel, fox, bobcat, bear, cougar, etc. If it wears hair I've probably run it with an Airedale.

You're right Old Dog. They will hunt. My little girl was the best pheasant dog I've ever seen and I've hunted over some expensive bird dogs. Star had a great nose and she would hunt till she dropped. I sure miss her!

I have a yellow lab. Unfortunately he doesn't hunt, was never trained to. I don't hunt small game anymore so it really doesn't matter.
I've always had a good hunting dog around..... My "Buddy" is a Brittany Spaniel...

I had my hunt with a couple of mountain curs and it was a hoot! ;D We treed a few squirrels and a 'coon.
I'm going to lot at a litter of pups in WV this week and might put a deposit down on one.
We have a Black Mouthed Cur (Old Yeller), brindle in color. He's 15 weeks old and looks like he's going to be a good dog, if a bit hard-headed.

I paid for my pup and will pick her up on Dec. 5. She's a mountain cur and tan in color. She just turned 5 weeks old. We call her Scooter. I don't know why, but it just seemed right for her.

Sure do miss that dog.
Have an older female (momma dog) and rescued lab now, he was 18 mo old, and is gun-shy.
Probably a good thing, I won't have to compare him with Monty.
I'll get another pup, someday, not ready yet.

We have our mountain cur, Scooter. She is 15 months old now and I sure understand about hard headed pups. She sure hunts around when in the woods so I think I'll have a good hunter one of these days. If I ever figure out how to insert a photo I'll put one in.
