I am not a bird hunter but I have 2 brotherinlaws who love it so much they started a bird farm and every year they put on a youth hunt totally free for anyone under 18 you do have to provide your own gun and ammo but the birds you shoot are free the food is free and they have prizes from hats teeshirts to packs and shotguns they get alot of buisnesses to sponsor it and they also have skeet shooting booths they take the kids out show them how to work a dog using thier own and scare up several birds for each kid and they have a backup shooter if the kids miss but there is 2 kids and they take turns being eachothers backup shooter they want me to volenteer at thier next one because it just gets bigger every year and I would like to give a few ideas if any of you have any I would appreciate it since I dont hunt birds its hard for me to think of any. Please and thank you for any ideas you give

It sounds like they have it worked out just fine. We do something similar at our sportsman's club. I always tell the kids to take no shot until they see blue sky under the bird in order to protect the dogs. And NO SHOTS ON THE GROUND!
If you have any specific questions I'll try to help.

It does sound like they have it all pulled together. The only thing I might mention is if they put on a weekend that is just for the girls. I belong to the Women in the Outdoors club, and it's been wonderful to have an opportunity to go on all women events and hunts. We have male teachers a lot of times, but having 'just us girls' really takes off the pressure while learning new things, not having to compete with the guys. It's also great for gals like me who don't have a husband to teach them how to hunt.

Star1pup I already got somthin from you (dont shoot untill blue sky ) I like that one you got to remember I dont bird hunt so if I learn a few things like that it helps me ---and Catalpa there were only a couple girls at the one last year but one of them won a gun and the other didnt do bad either so if we had an all girl day it would be to keep the boys from being nervous of the girls wining everything ;D I think girls hold thier own pretty well when it comes to guns

Our club has an annual Kid's Day and last year we had 533 kids attend. I worked the rifle range and the girls did better in many cases. I think it was because they listened to our instruction while the boys never wanted to admit there was anything the didn't know about guys. It's a guy thing. ;)
