I was lazy and left my deer feeders sitting where they were from last year. (I didn't hunt the land and deer didn't use them) I came to the second one and hit the cap to make it come off. I had about 40 hornets come out the bottom, yeah I got bit. After out running them I waited until dark and taped over the entrance (forn hole) I took the feeder to a cow trough and laid it into the water.. I came back in the morning and found it had killed them. I got them out and reset it and filled it with corn. I won't let the sit all winter again. Maybe.

Woah! I'll bet that WAS a nasty surprise!

Ain't nothin' I despise more than Wasps and Hornets. Those suckers will catch you flat-footed EVERY time! I know they're part of Nature, but they're SOOOOOO quiet and I'm SOOOOOOO not paying attention! ;D

Coleman Fuel in a spray bottle does WONDERS on 'em!

How awful! Sounds like you took care of them, good thinking to cover the opening and drown them in the water trough. Wow. Hope you're okay. Those stings can pain and itch for a long time.

Thanks I thought I'd share it with all of you. I did take the nest and dead wasper's out and feed them to the chickens. They thought it was another treat. I'll remember the coleman fuel for the ones that make nests around the house. I just won't get crazy about drenching them. Ha, Ha.

Dawn dishwashing liquid watered down good will go through one of those *ahem* kid's toy "shooters".... you know the kind, the ones with a 30 ft. range *wink*... works real good on wasps.

Howdy

The word Gypto is looking for is "Supper Soaker"

Have used that to knock down nests under the high gable end of shed, where garden hose would not reach.

You can leave your feeder hang, just tape it over when it is empty, and season is over.

Good luck

'Walker, good story! I, too, hate wasps/hornets.
Good disposal of them, also. Just be sure if you use either Coleman fuel or Dawn dishwashing stuff, or things like that, that your chickens DO NOT eat the little buggers! But I know how the clucks love that sort of treat. They probably thought is was the avian version of Christmas, eh?
