Well, i euthanized the skunk by lethal injection. I had made up a two piece pole out of pvc pipe and attached a vets needle. Two pieces of pipe and the inner pipe holds the needle and retracts into the outer piece when not in use but fully extended it it is still only about 6 feet long. I had a hard time sticking the skunk bent the first needle, the skunk was a little nervous (i was too), but finally got it done. The skunk went right to sleep and it didn't spray. Lucky, especially considering it's Friday the 13th. But my heart was pounding and my hands was shaking looks like i need to make a longer pole at least.

The skunk was a lot fatter than it looked in the trap. I extracted and bottled more skunk scent but still have only a fraction of an ounce. Here is a picture of the skinned and stretched hide.

Good job and great pictures. I'm glad to see you don't subscribe to the "I don't want to hurt it or even scare it I just want it to go away" crowd.

Thanks Lost1. No i'm not part of that crowd, i probably err too far on the other side :-X

Caught another one (third) today and this time i used a much longer pole and it went better. This skunk was a male and it had the biggest scent glands of the three. The one ounce lemon extract bottle is over half full now. I'm going to make a vaselene based lure with part of it. I've read skunk smell is of interest to most all other animalsand is an ingredient in most commercial lures. There's hardly anyplace where you can buy skunk essence and when you do it's highly diluted. I'm going to use it for both trapping and as cover scent (on nearby objects not on me) when deer hunting. I only have limited space on my picture host but if anyone has a true interest i could post a picture of the DIY injection pole.

Here it is for you Hillbilly Mom. *Shown is a regular vets needle of the type used in the pole. *You see it in the end of the PVC pipe and the head ground off and a screw attached. * *The white pole slides back inside the other for safety purposes and can be extended and held in place with a bolt drilled through both pipes and a wingnut which isn't shown. *Keep the needle cover on till ready to use! *Hope this is clear enough. PM me if you want to know where to get the injection fluid.

Also shown is the bottle of skunk essence i'm collecting and also the lure which *the little white bottle mixed with vaseline so it will stay put on a branch or etc and not be water soluble.

Edited....wrong mom!
