Hello all. I've been looking for anyone in my area that would be interested in starting a barter group, trade by exchange of goods, small or large. We are in northern Indiana. So far no one seems interested. The first thing I hear is, how much money is involved?! Does no one understand the workings of bartering anymore? The idea is to trade, honestly, goods and/or labor not cash. I look forward to your replies. Have a great day.

I tried to suggest maybe putting a barter forum on this site, but I guess know one was interested. I live in Southern Indiana. I think it would be great if we had one also. I think considering the current financial situation, it makes perfect sense.

I like to barter as well,I usually trade for building materials, firewood, etc,if you are having trouble finding people to barter with try posting on Craigslist, they have a section dedicated to bartering, one to farm and garden and lots of others that may interest you,I advertised my old Toyota trucks on there and got about 40 emails in 1 day!,pplus you can offer your trade to others as well, works for me pretty well,as does checking postings at the local hardware and grocery store, even word of mouth ,heck,if I see something in someones yard I'll even stop and try to talk them out of it,and of course I pick stuff out of the trash too :o,

Thanks for the ideas Boris I didnt think about posting on Craigslist or the local hardware stores. I did post at the library and a Kroger in my area but they resulted in a few.... odd emails at most. And you're right dkemple you would think due to the financial situation so many people are finding themselves in now there would be more interest in bartering.

Yes Ryan Mercer I am another Hoosier. I don't know if that is a good thing or not. I think I read one time where you live in the Northern part of the state. Is this correct? I live in the Southern part. A little town of about 4500 people called Mitchell. I live out in the country though. I have lived in Mitchell pretty much all my life.

Ever heard of a town called Tunnleton?? That's where I grew up.

Yes, I have been to Tunnelton numerous times. It used to be one of my old country cruises when I was a wild thing... You know how it is. So, I am assuming that you have been in the tunnel? They are really strict on that now, they will arrest you without question nowadays. How old are you? I am 43.

Yep, I was in the tunnel years ago....apparently under better times. There was no "safety" issues when I was a kid. I am 48 now. Our awesome fishin' hole was mere yards from where you park to go to the tunnel. We had a spot down there by the river that was good for DOZENS of bluegill on almost ANY given day!! I don't know....even THAT may have changed now.

In fact....Tunnelton has changed a BUNCH since I lived there as a kid. It used to be a cool little town with big old houses and it's own K-thru-12 school. Now it's a really sad collection of trailers with old refrigerators in the yard.

I think the last grade I attended at Tunnleton was 4th. Betsy Fynn was my girlfriend....and climbing trees and throwing rocks was my specialty... :-)

Toodles........Fred_47460

I am 43 years old. Yeah, I know what you mean about the trailers and refrigerators in the yards. The little area right near the opening of the tunnel is a little scary as well. I remember a few years ago me and a buddy were going down the river in the Jon boat and looked over on the bank in that area and there were old refrig's and barrels and even empty kegs laying on the bank of this one particular property. I have a place on the river and I keep it looking nice. My place is in the Yockey area (Twin Bridges). I am getting ready to build me a cabin this summer. Just a little get away type. I had the septic installed this past fall and an area leveled off. I can't wait. I love it down there. There are 3 acres.

I was involved in a group of folks in Illinois that bartered constantly.. service, food, barn "stuff". I made a load of friends and learned about just everything underthesun. I sure would like to get into a community like that again.

I saw craigslist mentioned-- if it doesn't work for you, you might try posting signs on bulletin boards in supermarkets, libraries, viseo rental shops, etc. ;)

now that the economy is so rough, I see more on craiglists for barter than usual. Consider being direct in your postings there. For instance, I was offering a tool box full of socket sets for hauling services to get rid of old couches, etc.

A good start is type "craigslist.com" in your browser. Pick your state and go from there.
