It's been a few years since we got snowed in. *But we always love it! *We generally are stocked up anyway, so everyone gets to stay home a few days, all the nieghbors come out and help each other with snow removal, downed tress and the like. *We watch movies, play cards, eat a lot!

Our last BIG storm was Nov/Dec 2006 - it snowed I think for 15 days straight - just one big storm after another. *So we are due for one. *There was so much snow that some guy was driving his Toyota pickup down the street pulling a snowboarder! *Lots of folks using their cross country skis and even a few getting around on their snowmoblies (in the city - which I think some folks got ticketed for - man those local cops are spoilers >:( )

One year (2003 I think) we bulit a snow cave in the back yard - it was big enough for 2 to sit pretty comfy and have a nice hot (adult) beverage!

Would love to hear your snowed in stories too!

well, we picked our christmas tree out in summer and I tied a surveyors ribbon to it so we could readily find it. snow was so deep you could not find anything. we had the worst looking christmas tree ever.

I live in MN, need I say more?

I can't remember what year it was, but, we lived in a small house on the same farm as my hubby's parent's, and there was a blizzard that raged for day's. My MIL's birthday, we couldn't get from one house to the next, in fact we couldn't even see their house from ours.

We haven't had that much snow for several years, and I'm glad. :P

Been a couple of years since we were snowed in here, but that year,I couldn't get my car up the small hill to get outside of town......

We have had drifts halfway up the door, and so much snow that we had to shovel a place to let the dog out to go potty.

I don't mind snow, just don't ever look forward to having to drive in it!

Oh, I love being snowed in! :D
Some of you may laugh at what constitutes being "snowed in" in Arkansas but, I like to take advantage of it. :D
Eight inches of snow cancels School, Church, City Council meetings, sporting events, PTA meetings, birthday parties for 5 year old kids and dog-sled races. Well, okay... maybe not dog-sled races but, you get my point. The radio announcers have a great time interrupting the music for "Breaking News"... "We've just recieved an update from the National Weather Service in Little Rock and it appears that this winter storm may linger until late tomorrow when we can expect temperatures returning to the mid-50's. This is Joe Kloski reporting live from the Baxter County Office of Emergency Management. Back to you, Tim.". Big trucks plow the hiways and spread sand and there's no bread or milk at the store. By golly, somehow though, the mailman still manages to shove bills in my mailbox. He has tire-chains. Cheater. Stay home with Pay, buddy! ;D Eight inches of snow is not debilitating; it's a reason to celebrate getting more than three. ;)

Our best snowed in story here in north central Alabama was the Blizzard of '93. We only had our son still at home and he was 12.

We didn't have our wood-burning heater then so pulled our mattress in front of the fireplace.

The state highway in front of our house was closed for nearly seven days!

Husband read out loud every night from James Herriot's books and we all slept cuddled up on the one mattress....I cooked on the fireplace and we made it fine....although by the end of the week I REALLY wanted a nice warm---no---HOT shower!

We had no electricity for all that time but surprisingly our phone stayed on the entire time!

I didn't have all my animals then so things would be different now!

I do remember about a three to four inch snow a few years ago....going down to check on the bunnies in their barn and they were all so snug...

Our woods just get so still and quite and I usually pick ANY snowfall as a chance to hike over our little hill in the woods to the little log cabin that my brother and grandfather built about 60 years ago....it is about the size of a playhouse and just barely standing now but I have some beautiful photos of it in the snow....

One winter we were snowed in to the point that we went out the back window of the house. We had opened the front door, and saw nothing but snow drifted to the top of the door. *We then plowed out all we could with the 450 dozer. It was odd to roll down state road in a crawler dozer.

The whole family snowed in together, woodstove and even with electric, no chance of getting out for a week. No place to go if you could get out. *it was ok for a time, then we wanted to kill each other.

years later during a storm on Christmas day, As my wife sat knitting on the sofa and I read a book...we were startled by a loud boom & flash of light outside, and the whole town went dark...all but our house and the house nextdoor. *A tree had fallen on the line in our lawn. *Now Chris and I had just married so we were rather happy with the idea of being snowed in. Just us and the cat *;) but *on new years day (night), mom and dad called, they lived a mile away.

They had been with out power and wanted to stay with us. what can you say to your mother right???

As they were packing their bags to come stay the night with us..... the lights came back on, and ours went out *;) *;)

I remember the worst storm was a wild one in Minnesota. We lived in a small town of about 10K. Kids and DH made it home for they all walked. I was a saty it home mom. The blizzard roared for a week. The kids and I took turns reading Laura Engels Wilder books. No electric or heat. We managed. It was fun.

Life goes on pretty much normally even in a blizzard in Wyoming. When we lived in Casper (central part of the state), we would lose our access road nearly every year because of snowdrifts. The access road itself was only about a quarter-mile long, so we would end up parking at the beginning of it (by the plowed county road) and hiking in knee-deep snow to the house.
One day, in my 19-year-old foolishness, I came to the conclusion that there was no reason that my awesome Land Rover couldn't bust through (even though my grandparents' Jeep and Toyota both tried and failed). I turned hard into the road, mashed the accelerator, and busted through the first section (probably with a smug look on my face. I got about halfway down the road, and thought to myself "Yeah! I'm gonna make it!" About a second later, I was high-centered :P The rover stayed there for about a day and a half, until our neighbor chained up his Dodge 1-ton and pulled me out.
A year or two later, we invested in a snow plow.

Here in WA we get an accumulation of 4 or 5 feet but it never snows long enough to get where we can't handle it. We did have a two day Ice storm that pretty well shut down the town of Spokane for about a week.

We got 18-22 inches the other day. It was all in one day and a little more overnight. I live down in the valley too, we got several feet up in the hills. We were snowed in for a few hours, but out here everyone has a tractor and we were plowed out the next morning. :'( I like being snowed in but man I hate feeding in knee deep snow!!

My memory is fuzzy but I'll try to remember.

Where we live in Finland we don't have to worry about being snowed in, we live on the edges of a big city. The snowplows are deployed out and about after a big snow storm.

I remember in 2003 February that we got a foot and a half of snow in about 3 hours. We made snowmen and goofed off. I also got lodged in the snow lol, my husband had to dig me out lol :D.

In 2006 we had TONS of blizzards. First was on Halloween and it snowed so hard you could walk on the snow and not leave a mark. Good thing I had made cookies the night before because we couldn't reach a store to get Halloween goodies lol.

I remember it blizzarding in 2006 around Christmas also. All the extended family was here for the holidays and no power...fun wasn't a word I'd use ;) lol.

Up till this past winter it was fun to be snowed in. We have solar power so we don;t lose any conveniences, but last winter we had 6 feet of snow on the ground and it got old quickly. A pictures worth a thousand words:

After reading all this, we decided to go get a slue of board games. The next time my wife and I are snowed in we will learn to play chess :) we went out and picked up several bags of candles, matches, lighter fluid on and on..and have it sandbaged in the celler.

Hope it snows

WOS - that's so cool. BF and I usually play mostly card games. I think during one storm I even decided to re-organize the kitchen :o

Being snowed in can be fun and relaxing as long as you are prepared. I feel bad for the folks without power-- check these out:
