View Full Version : Used Trucks
Since I can't afford a new one, I was thinking of getting a diesel PU and doing a good overhaul on the suspension, brakes, bearings, front end, etc. The 12V Gen1 and 2 Dodges seem like good trucks, and I figure that sinking around 5K or less into one would be better for me than paying for a new one.
Any suggestions?

Dodge's are fine; Chevy's are good.
Most farmers / ranchers in my area have them.
From what I've read - particularly in Farm Show magazine - from people who actually use a truck as a truck ... Ford = Junk.

I did what you are about to do. My truck run,s and drives very good. I have a 1988 dodge dakota gas engine. i bought mine at the GSA auction on the net for 500.00 I was looking for a truck body only. I did not care what was wrong with it. cost me about 3500.00 in parts

That is the exact truck I would pick myself if going with a diesel, followed by a Ford. That is ranked by engine durabillity, in my opinion, and experience. The cummins is a very good engine, I would try for a manual transmission, as the auto would be a weak link in that truck.
