ok i have a few queries.

what i would like to do would be live (self-reliance) for 1 year in the Australian bush somewhere...as in a little hut, some small crops and a few livestock (chickens, goats, rabbits), no electricity, no anything except the wonderful surrounds and being at one with nature. no hustle an bustle... i think you know what im gettin at. lol

the few Q's i have are as follows:

- what would the initial cost be appox (things like seeds for crops and alike)? plus, things like bulk rice, oatmeal, and alike?
- would i, by myself, be able to raise enough crops to survive for one year (with chickens, maybe rabbits and goats too)?
- i realise its a labour intensive life, but is it a duck till dawn job (a 1 person crop etc etc)?
- could river water be boiled to make it drinkable?
- how long would it take to get going before i can safey live there (ie, set it up and running, ie, crops yeilding, either eay, when will i be able to "live off the land" totally?

this is just what i can remember for this time, but in your reply, if there is anything u think u should add, plese do so.

thankg you

Welcome Tippsy ;D
I suppose your water supply would be the first thing to look at. River water MIGHT be made drinkable if there is no industrial pollution in the area where you will live. Most bacteria etc. can be killed by boiling, then you could filter the water. You could probably give the river water to you animals as it is. Maybe bathing too, or add a little chlorine first.
Do you know the annual rainfall in your area? Rainwater is better some times.
I don't have a clue about Australia, but I think you can do it if you want to bad enough. If this was me, and if it was my first year doing it, I would limit the number of animals, since they take some time every day. Another thing: will you have other human contact during this year or be waaaay out there somewhere, alone?

Welcome to the forum, Tippsy:
Australia, where? It's a very large place, sort of like saying the U.S., where ? Maine, Arizona, Alaska, all very different.
Forget about raising rabbits, their lousy with them and its against the law to import any more.
Crops, your not going to grow anything in less than 3 months. That I know of .
One good thing is, Australia does issue a one year /
working Visa. This allows you to be employed 6 month out of the year.
There are more web sites about Australia than you can shake a stick at.
Remember things are bassakwards down there. Water goes down the drain clockwise, Christmas is in the middle of the summer and the further north you go the hotter it gets.

Again, welcome onboard.........Weezin aka..Dennis
