Hey All, I just purchased one of the newer eaton Radios the American Redcross Model FR300. One of those thing I needed just did have. This model has weather alert Am/Fm, NOAA,TV VHF,Flashlight and cell charger. It's actually not a bad made product. Just throwin it out their if anyone was looking at them. I like the hand crank charger as well as battery back up!

I have the Grundig FR200 and really like it. It has a dynamo crank for emergency, and AA battery back up. The batteries last a long time. It has an LED light for emergency use and has Short Wave. I also like the ability to fine tune the stations.

Thanks y'all I've been wondering about both of those radios. Being on a tight budget I can't afford to be buying a crappy product. I'll have to take a closer look at those 2 radios. Thanks again. ;D

Now thats would be really nice around here. We can get some real wild storms and tornadoes in the summer time. Definitely have to get me on of those. Thanks.

Glad to see these posts. I am wondering, is it better to have the TV reception or the short-wave reception? It doesn't appear that both are available on the same radio. Thanks

I just bought one of the RadioShack models. It doesn't have weather on it but I already have that covered. The short wave is great and I love the concept of the generator.

Got an FR300 Eton on order. Ordered it from www.BePrepared.com for a few bucks less than Radio Shack. I'll let you know about the radio and the service I received from this outfit.

I made a coil antenna for my radio...maybe 6 or 7 wraps and twisted the wire onto the radio antenna....made a huge difference..even listened to a few Hams. The only regret I have, is the radio only has two SW bands.

It doesn't have S/W but it has a couple of lights..

For a few more bucks and if S/W is a must..

i was reading a lot on radios over the last several months, including the eton/grundig models.

what i really want is one with AM/FM/Weather/Shortwave which is only offered in a couple models. one, the kaito gets horrible ratings everywhere i read. eton doesn't make that combo. it's either AM/FM/Weather or AM/FM/Shortwave. i don't include TV bands because i have no inerest.

i was disappointed with the ratings i read on amazon, epinions, and others, about the eton/grundig models. things like the handcrank system breaking after a while, and horrible AM reception.

but, i love the NOAA stations, and wanted something with S.A.M.E. technology, so i ended up buying a Radioshack handheld scanner. THe Pro-97 model. In addition to being programmable for scanning frequencies, it has the 7 NOAA channels on a separate band and has programmable S.A.M.E. technology, where i put in the codes for all of the surrounding counties. it also has a pre-programmed band for shortwave including 2 meter, which i understand is an emergency repeater band that HAMs use in emergencies. as far as power, it uses 4 AA batteries including rechargables. the AC adapter or the 12v DC adapter charges the radio's batteries, and in addition i have a solar battery charger. it's a handheld scanner the size of a walkie talkie that i can and do carry everywhere (home, truck, work)

as far as AM, which i still want, i'll probably lean toward the Freeplay Plus which has solar or a handcrank, or the CCRadioPlus with a solar panel. i understand that both get very good AM reception, which is a priority.

I have used a FR-200 mfor years. The battery door will not close every time (my fault) but the radio works everyh time and the generator is used most of the time up in camp.

It was well worth the money.

I got my FR300 yesterday, haven't had much time to "play" with it yet, but I think I am going to like it.
Am impressed with the AM reception so far. :)

;) I am more than pleased with the FR300, a whole lot of things I like about it. I cannot complain about anything.
I am going to try the suggestion about the NASCAR races and such. I never thought about that before, kinda wondered why anyone would want to listen to a TV station on the radio.
Many thanks for the original suggestion about the FR300.
