Sue hasn't cleaned her cupboards for awhile, until she began noticing some flying critters recently.

We went through the whole place and found them nesting in two things, an old package of pecan nuts, wormy, and a box of bread crumbs where a few flew out.

What a job. Now what to do.
We washed the cupboards out, put a lot of stuff in jars instead of leaving them in plastic packages, and want to spary something to help keep them from being so comfortable in our place again.

Help! Oh, woe is me. We don't want the guys to know what we're doing, or they'll never eat another meal we cook.

We're gonna start baking again and get rid of this overload.

Thank goodness our storage food is somewhere else, and there is no problem at all there, except that we probably have stored too much.

What kind of spay do we need>

I've heard that you can lay bay leaf around, or put them in the containers, and maybe borax acid in back of shelves.

Don't really know what to do. Used to know. That was a long time ago.

Please let me know real quick if you know anything that could help. love, alma

BORIC acid is good for crawling type bugs, not BORAX tho. If they're flying bugs, you could try leaving a single light on, with a shallow pan of soapy water underneath to catch them. Good luck in any case. :)

Alma,

The best advice I can give you is store everything in glass jars. I keep all my staples, flour, sugar, etc. in gallon size glass jars that I got from a restaurant I worked at.

Boric acid is really NOT a good idea around food products, I have used it on the floor around doors to keep ant out, but I would never use it around food! I would also be very wary of using any type of poison spray around food.

The problem I am sure you are having is from pantry type moths (millers and pantry beetles) they are attracted to flour and grain products.

Keeping the shelves clean and free of spilled flour and such should get rid of your bug problem. However I would make sure there aren't any moths or bugs left (hiding) in what you intend to keep!

Hope this helps.

you can put a couple of bay leaves in the jars, but just putting them out will not help. My daughter just went through the same experience. It happens that you bring home meal/flour/ grains that are contaminated with the bugs eggs and will hatch and you wonder how they got into your glass containers. But otherwise, glass containers are your best bet to keep them out once you are rid of them. Good luck.
