For the last few years I have been meaning to photograph and record the serial numbers of all my items. I wish I had not put it off.
Neighbor who was taking care of my cat while I was working on the SBI Net border security project for my day job called last Monday called saying my house got robbed. My friends and neighbors who I gave keys to my home while I was away didn't see anything missing that I described to them.
When I arrived home Saturday, I found luckily the criminals didn't get my protection items or my food supply. Lost about $2,000.00 worth of stuff I cannot afford to replace. Hopefully my homeowners insurance will pay for the stolen items. They could have taken more. It appeared they sledge hammered my door to gain entry. I suspect they plan to return. Hopefully if they do I can be home to shoot them in their knee caps and have the police haul them off.
As soon as possible, I advice all of you to photograph and record the serial numbers of all of you items. Get a security system for use when you are away, especially if you live in surburbia and have not yet escaped to the country.
I cannot wait to sell my home and get out of the city!!

Wow, sorry to hear about that.
$2k is not so much when you consider the price to replace everything. Hopefully you have the replacement cost in your insurance. So many things could be missing that you haven't discovered yet.
I went through and did my and my brother's guns.
We should have the make/model/serial number stored OFF SITE in a safe deposit box also.
Pictures and/or video should be easy to do.

Or sue you for everything you have or ever will have.
If you shoot them outside DO NOT drag them into the house.
The cops watch CSI also. ;D ;D

Theres nothing more discusting then a thief. I wish the laws would change so we could make it so they would not steal and never breed without flat out killing them

I,m sorry this happened to you but it can be as bad in the country to. I was broken into twice in a month. They cleaned me out. They took everything from a cell phone to a tv to a microwave oven to jewlery. I was lucky I had insurance.

We are actually having trouble with people stealing fertilizers and stuff...it's expensive too. Meth heads mostly...

Sorry to hear about that. maybe a loud dog that gets along with your cat can help keep people away.
Good advice, though to photograph and document serial numbers. I really need to do that more.

I suggest only shooting to stop the aggression if it comes. I would otherwise hold them and call the police if they don't run away. When I got my HSC permit, I was told that was the only acceptable, i.e. lawful, shooting in self defense allowed. Shooting them when they are down, running away or when they are not a danger to my life is seriously frowned on and can lead to serious consequences.

Jamie, the country's not much better from that standpoint.:( At one time or the other, eveyone on this end of our road has been robbed. Some, more than once.
If you can afford it, do make sure you have replacement cost for what's stolen, if you have a breakin. We learned the hard way, that ours was decreciated cost. We got almost nothing for an expensive convection/microwave oven we'd bought a few years before.
And, if you have something rare, expensive, unusual, etc. you'll need to add a rider to your policy to cover it. A friend had to add a rider to her policy to cover the antique silver that she inherited. Her regular homeowners would only cover a small portion of it's actual value.

Thanks for the suggestions and such, especially on the rider insurance. My home owner insurance carrier, AAA, who I also have for my truck, recently sent me a letter that they are dropping all Louisiana customers who have home owners insurance with them. My first concern when I was robbed and when my neighbor called me was my inherited hand guns from my father, one from a German officer in WWII dated 1920. Will look into the extra policy when I find a new homeowners insurance carrier.
I just had planned to wing the burglars as they were hauling out my generator and cultivator while they were still in the garage.
Those people that prefer not to work for a living to obtain their stuff robbed one of my neighbors down the road within a couple hours after he left his home from lunch on Friday.
I got a security system (the one I pay a monthly fee for) then got sacrifised to the god of permanent unemployment week before last at my day job. At least I am home more.
On the plus side, I am now a full time commercial beekeeper. Down side I only have 70 colonies. I just have to work harder making more products (beeswax candles, etc), do more bee removals, catch more swarms, and breed more queens, harvest more honey....
Making less money now, but I am happier and have less stress than when I worked for the blood sucker, screw the employees, gov't contractor, day job I used to work at. As I am already sweet enough, at least I don't consume much product (e.g. honey).
Back to work pouring beeswax into candle molds for sale!

my folks say whre I live is not where the world is boarded up but where the nails are sticking out. OUt in the boonies. for a while we had five gallons at a time of gas siphoned out of our car. this stopped when we got a dog. One night around three AM the dog acted like it was going to eat someone alive, after that, no more gas stolen. we must have prevented a breakin, as we were gone only 45 minutes, when we came home there was a hole in the window. a burgler just needs to run over in the woods and hide. we'll never find him. You need a dog when you live in the country.
whoever it was must have been a neighbor who saw our comings and goings.

Remember that old saying "Keep your friends close, and your enemies closer"!
Back during spring break the city police were here in the trailer park, which is in the county, looking for three robbery suspects. Wish I had had my DD rack a bullet into the chamber of the semi-automatic pistol that is in the closet as I don't have the strength to do it. We have what is called "The castle doctrine" law here in TX where we can now use deadly force to protect ourselves and our homes and the perpertrator is no longer allowed to sue us if they survive.

Look into a trail camera with a IR flash (so no one can see the flash) and place them to cover your house with out being in the open to much.
Been thinking about getting a couple for our place.
Mainly to see what the dogs bark at. It's either deer or house cats.
Just a thought everyone.

Yup, I've a friend who was jailed for shooting a person who broke in and assaulted him and his girlfriend. He took half the creeps calf off with 12 ga 3 1/2" OOO buck to the leg. His Lawyer recommended a shot to the chest/head instead..........
Dead criminals can't lie in court.

Yep MYellowRose is correct. In Texas you can shoot them even as they are leaving if they have your belongings. Also if they break in while you are there you need only "Be in fear of your life or the life of a loved one" to shoot them. Also in Texas the Castle Doctrine extends to your car.
MYellowRose get yourself a gun that you don't need someone to rack one for you. I have several really great semi-autos that are easy to rack but DH has one that I can't budge. Or maybe a simple single barrel 20 gauge shotgun.
I had someone getting into my gas tank and not closing my gas cap properly which was making my "Service Engine Soon" light come on. The first time it happened I didn't think to check the gas cap and took it to my mechanic friend and he showed me the loose gas cap. It happened a couple more times after. We have two dogs but they are locked in the back yard and getting on in years so maybe that's why they didn't wake us. I finally got tired of it and told my DH I was going to put a warning out to whoever was doing it. I took some empty shotgun casings around my car from our last skeet shoot and put a couple on the trunk of the car too. We have not had a problem since I started leaving the shells around the car. That is what we call a Texas Security System and the person messing with my car wouldn't want to set that alarm off or he would get some shells not emptied yet :)
