The best I can do is share with you what my hubby learned while he lived in the Dominican Republic for 2 years. They constantly "recycled" their candle wax, combining all of the little pieces that were left after the candle had burned down. They made wicks by soaking some thin twine in kerosene. Those who took the time would then dip the kerosene soaked twines in melted wax. In the really poor areas where he lived, kerosene was the way to go.
