Hi,
I got home last night and my pigs had got out and one was hurt. The one it looks like her toenail got almost pulled off. My neighbor said it will probably heal just fine and leave it alone but I was wondering if anyone thought there was something I could do for it. She does act as if it is hurting she will not put weight on it. Thank you all.

It's hard to tell without seeing it and really hard to keep the foot of a pig clean enough to heal! Maybe you need to put it in a special stall with lots of clean straw for a while?

We found some stuff at the feed store once that was for horse wounds. It was in a blue can and we don't have any more - but when the turkey got attacked while on her nest by a raccoon, she got her entire butt and side torn open. We sprayed this stuff on the open wound and it dried it out and kept infection and flies out of it. That was two years ago and you can't tell she was even hurt anymore! Maybe you can find a similar thing in your feed store?

Is it loose and flopping around at all? In that case maybe a bandage would be in order to hold it in place also but be careful - because if you don't have the flies out it would grow maggots under the bandage.

That's about all I can think of to do. Good luck!

do you know a hoof trimmer in your area?
