To sorta expound on Almas Surviving Peak Oil thread, here's something that I recently learned the hard way.
Many of us know that humans can use many of the items sold For Animal Use Only at vets and feed stores (with advice from a knowledgable person, of course).

Among other 'pet meds' that I keep on hand, I like to keep antibiotics. I thought it a good time for a Trial Run as I was already about over the Flu. I had a bottle of Amoxicillin (broad spectrum bactercidal antibiotic) in 250 mg capsules that is sold as fish aquarium stuff.
My LPN wife informed (after I told her what I was doing 3 days later :'( ) me that my tummy can't dissolve the stuff that the capsule was made of. You have to OPEN it! :o It even says so on the bottle. :o I felt stupid.

I should'a mixed it with orange juice, I guess ;D

Any other adventures, advice or tips on Farm Meds?

Ozark,

This is an awesome idea! I never even thought about this before. I've always wanted to keep some antibiotics on hand for "just in case. I don't think I would depend on them if I had access to a doctor and real "human" drugs but this is definitely some good food for thought.

thanks

I know you can use the injectable antibiotics from the farm supply. I need to do some research on this subject.

I worked as a vet tech for some years, do your research on the meds and dosages. You will find that many will work on humans, especially the antibiotics and topicals.

I have used the antibiotics myself. Both the injectable and the powder, one thing about oral is they may be harder on the stomach and you should probably eat with them.. Learned that the hard way..LOL

Like I said research what you intend to take..
