They are coming to build our chicken coop Monday morning at 6:30 a.m. We are suppose to have the site cleared and leveled by then with pavers in place.
The coop is really a shed that we will convert to a coop. It will have a wooden floor.
Question is, is there a certain height that we should set the pavers at? I've seen some coops at ground level and others set a foot off the ground.
Ummm? Should I have put this in the building section?

Either place should be fine with your question.
I think it's really a matter of what you want. My coop is about a foot off the ground and I've had to put chicken wire around it to keep critters out (including setting hens!). But lower would make it damper where it's at now. I think the problem has been solved because the floor has rotted on the inside and collapsed - well it's only at least 40 year old! Sounds like you will have a solid floor but you may want it up a few inches just to get some circulation. If you live in a very cold area maybe keeping it lower would help with the cold air but I'm not sure about that.

Thanks for the input Deberosa. The good folks over at the chicken forum agreed that either way will be fine. The up argument is that it gives the girls a place to hide out, keeps moisture from rotting the building and creates air flow. The on the ground argument is that it will stay warmer in the winter. The place we bought the building from says the pavers just need to be at least 2" high from their stand point.
Tomorrow will tell..
