For those of you who are not aware; idodine based water purification products such as Polar Pure will soon be unavailable. Because this product uses iodine crystals (which have been deemed a methamphetamine "precursor chemical" by the DEA), once the small remaining supplies have sold out, there will be no more Polar Pure or similar products produced in the US. This is your last chance to stock up, folks! Below are some links to places that have some limited supplies left.

One container will treat about 2,000 quarts of water. These could be a life saver during a severe drought when wells, springs, and smaller streams go dry.

Boiling does work well but what if you must sterilize water during the summer in drought circumstances and there is no electricity?

#1 making a fire to boil water could concievably start a fire you don't want.

#2 a fire during emergency circumstances makes smoke and marks EXACTLY where your location is for looters to come pay you a visit.

#3 boiling large amounts of water, say 5 gallons or more takes a LOT of electrical energy if you have electric and would take a LONG time to boil on a fire. Not to mention cool off enough to drink.

The Polar Pure bottle is VERY portable and easy to carry and store.

I agree, my preference would be to boil the water as I would prefer not to drink chemically treated water but some circumstances might not allow this, at least not readily.

I've got several bottels in stock.
I agree this is possibly the most portable/cost effective solution of treating water. I'd still like to carry a good filter to clean out the other contaminates.

Could you Please state your source?
Who says this is to be banned/discontinued? Where?

Polar Pure at Campmor: $10.99 per bottle.

That is a dollar cheaper price but they kill you on the shipping charges if you don't buy over $100.

I found out about this ruling on Survival Blog:

The JBT's are continually at it, looking for ways to more tightly control your life for your own good whether you want it or not.

Here is the bureaucratic BS justification DOJ propaganda. Nobody has a more dim view of drug dealers than I do but all this does is punish the innocent.

I do not rely on blogs. Any of them. I ask for the source, and check it out.

Ready Resources had this message:
"That product could not be found."

They are still in stock at Campmor.
Standard Shipping Orders Over $100
(50 States) * FREE*

Standard Shipping Orders Under $100
(50 States) * $6.95 * CHEAP!!!

I noticed a couple of other things on that government list:
(25) Red Phosphorus 6795
(26) White phosphorus (Other names: Yellow Phosphorus) 6796
* ( Matches are getting scarce! )

I cleaned off the shelf at Walmart. The 50 cent boxes of matches were marked down to 25 cents, so I bought them all, about $8 worth.

Also listed:
(5) Potassium permanganate:
*( Another chemical used to purify water )

Another gooberment agancy looking out for you.
Excuses to prohibit legal activity, and add compliance fees.

Jim Rawles has proven to be a VERY reliable source of information in my experience but I like to verify the source myself as well.

Just go to your local hardware or pool supply store and get some http://www.survivaltopics.com/survival/better-than-bleach-use-calcium-hypochlorite-to-disinfect-water/ or "pool shock". It will treat many thousands of gallons.

Calcium hypochlorite and sodium hypochlorite both work great as well too. They are however extremely corrosive and explosive if mixed with certain chemicals.

I have used it to sanitize our well which worked out very well.

You don't need iodine anymore, there are lots of water purification treatment pills and kits out there. In my sons boyscout troup, they teat the kids to use a little pump and it will filter 100 gals of water. lot easier than caring all those pills and the water is clear/clean when you drink it. You can find them on ebay and other places real easy.

You may want to check the label on the water treatment pills. They have a shelf life that is not that long especially after you open the bottle. The pump filters do a pretty good job but they do not filter out many virus's which must be treated with iodine or some other disinfectant or heat to nutralize.

I keep the iodine strictly for emergency water treatment in the event of an extended power outage and or extreme drought where wells run dry.
