maybe this should go in tools and building, I am not sure.
we need to make a hole in a block wall for a stove pipe. I am afraid the block may be filled up with concrete. I am kind of wondering how we will get the hole made. we have one of those stainless steel outside chimneys and a second hand stove all ready. anyone done that?
thanks for any help

I don't think it will be fun no matter how you go about it however I would go at it with a masonry bit, hammer drill, chisel and hammer. *If the blocks aren't filled with concrete, it should go fairly easy. *If, however they are filled, you could be in for a long day.

I rented an impact hammer with a 5/8" bit to drill the concrete for foundation bolts. You can drill out holes in a circle, then chip out the center with the chisel. Even if concrete filled, it won't be too bad unless you chose a cell with rebar in it. I would guess that drilling will take about an hour, then another to shape the final hole. I'd make sure that I had some kind of narrow saw blade in case I found rebar. Otherwise, the work stops right there!

A handy tool might be a riprocrating saw with a masonary blade.

thanks guys. this will be fun. Husband has a bad shoulder. He talked about a wall hung propane heater yesterday to tide me over (it is for my studio, we have a woodstove in the house).
okay, hammer drill, masonry blade, impact hammer. Learned some new words here.

Please wear eye protection, dust and chips and all. good luck. only thing to add if not using power tools would be a star drill type chisel. Rick
