Is there anyone here that would use their house brand oil and filters in their vehicles and change on the suggested maint. scheds? Why or why not?

Not trying to start a fight, just curious.

Since Wal Mart has a 100% satisfaction policy I'd say the oil would
be ok. My concern would be the guy who changes the oil. Who knows
if he's had training or not??

Probably right on that. Their setup makes it difficult to watch them in action.

I had my oil changed three times at Walmart.

On the third time, I asked, "Do you check the water level?"

"We don't flush the radiator."
"That's not what I asked. Do you check the water level in the radiator?"
"We don't flush the radiator."
"My car will overheat if you don't check the water."

After 10 minutes, I gave up.
The employees were polite, but I don't think they know anything about cars.

I've used both house brand and Mobil-1 oil. I was happy with both. Come to think of it, I think that they are the same price although I could be mistaken. I did have an incident where they didn't put my new oil filter on tight enough and I had leaks. I brought it back to them and they fixed it.

I now have a mechanic friend change it for me as he gets oil at a better price than I could if I were to change it myself.

I use Advance Auto Parts house brand oil, it's made by Valvoline. And Fram filters. I used to use NAPA filters, till I noticed the fine print said "Made in India".

I have been changing my 2002 GMC oil there from day one and now have 150,000 miles. Always the plus. No problems. I use to stand out by the garage and watch them but finally quite that. Now I drink thier coffe and read thier magazines.
I do up the anti a bit and change it every 3,000 miles

I won't pay chinamart prices to change my oil, as my chevy dealer will change the oil/filt and wash my car for $19.95 and has free popcorn and coffee. That's less than chinamart charges here, for just the oil change.

My Dodge dealer charges $21.95 and has free popcorn, coffee and vaccuums the whole car out.

As for store brand oils. There's an API rateing on every can of oil. If the can meets or exceeds the rateing your car requires, it doesn't matter who made the oil.

I'm only brand loyal for my equipment and diesel's.

All man, you said the W word. Consider Firestone if you can. I used to work at one. They check your vehicle over for you for free " It's a ploy to sell you stuff so watch out, avoid there up sell stuff, flushes etc.. Unless you know whats up" There house oil is full synthetic. They also back up all there work, and they are not WM.

I get my oil changed at walmart regularly. I like the service they give. I do watch them do the work while my wife is happily spending money in the store. The only thing I don't like is about every third oil change they serve you with papers saying you need new tires (the tread is too low according to them). They want you to sign papers stating you were told of the problem. I signed the first time, checked the tread and found my tires were good to go. Now I just tell them to "stick" the paper.

I would not get my oil changed where you buy your underware.

Not to change the subject but does anyone remember the toilet paper oil filter? I had a teacher in school who had one on a 69 Plymouth Fury.

Ol' Wally World isn't exactly a monument to automotive know-how. Granted it's only an oil change, but like was posted above, you can get it done at the dealer using factory approved oil and filters for cheaper, and they usually throw in a car wash to boot, plus the "Multipoint inspection". (aka, "Look for something to upsell") It never hurts to have someone taking a peek at your rig while it's on the rack, the question is, how badly (if at all) do you really need what they recommend? Sometimes it's a lifesaver, sometimes they're just trying to sell you something.

I remember, and they even had a rig for aircraft with recip engines.

I wonder why anyone would ask if they checked the water level if they only went in for an oil change???????
Wouldnt get mine changed by them or anyone--done it myself since day one--about 1950--wasnt legal age to some but had my Farm Permit so had me a car--36 Ford Roadster and NO--did not have fenders on it once I got it home. *Had a rumble seat though--ha. Oh yeah--didnt have a top either
Fram and Castrol have me hooked every 3000 or so.

I do my own oil changes. Have been doing it myself for over 25 years. Wouldn't dream of having my vehicle serviced by Wal-mart. They hire nothing but ex-cons and aliens who can't even speak the King's English. *No way in hell they'd ever touch my vehicle. *
