I need some help with my alternator

I have a 1987 22r 4x4 truck. I swapped engines for a 1983 22r The motor starts and runs fine, but the alternator isnt charging. I just put a brand new alternator on it today and still nothing. The charge light on the dash wont go off and when the truck is running and I pull the positive cable off the battery the truck dies. What else could it be?

have battery and Alt' Checked at Auto Zone? It's free. I know you said you got a new one, but they can come broken sometimes.

Does this alternator have an external or internal voltage regulator? I am not for certain they can but ask Autozone to bench test the alternator.

thanks for the quick response. The problem after all was very small, it was a blown fuse under the dash. Problem is I never could find the fuse box after all these headaches.
