Anyone out there play with the old FJ40's? I have a 1974 I pulled apart several years ago and want to start the restoration on. I documented most everything when I pulled it apart and have the normal Haynes manuals. There are also some decent resources on the internet so hopefully all will fall into place. I have some photos from before I tore it apart however can't find them at the moment. To help the funding, I'm going to dump the Talon and the Mustang, not to mention they are both projects in themselves and I don't have the time for all of them.

I love those old Toyotas...they can go anywhere and last forever. Good luck on the restoration.

Thanks and you are right, they are incredible. This particular unit sat for several years. I bought it and let it sit a while longer. One weekend on leave, I stuck a new battery in it and purged the fuel lines. That was all it took and it was up and running. I didn't register it for the road as its somewhat remote in my area and I was able to get to local gas stations and bash through the woods. After I got out of the service, I was so impressed that it ran as good as it had I decided it was worth saving instead of beating into the ground. I completely yanked it apart and started ordering parts. I ended up in college, kids, wife.... And it still sits in the infancy stages of restoration. I guess I just saw a light over the weekend and realized I have too many projects in the way of vehicles so I'm going to streamline down to my favorite. There is some great info available and parts are reasonable. The most expensive item will be the replacement tub. The motor was still running strong and I had replaced gaskets and painted things up years ago.
Once I get started I'll try and document things on my site. It will probably take quite some time due to time and finance but I'm looking forward to stomping around in it again.

I had a '77. My first vehicle. Brought it back from the dead twice.
I now dream of an FJ45 someday.
Best trucks ever made. That inline 6 is a torque monster. Gotta love the hand crank shaft nut on the front.

I agree with the 45's. They are very nice. I contemplated purchasing the appropriate parts to convert mine over but with 3 kids, I think we could have more fun with the traditional 40. I was looking at 60's and 55's last night. They are much more reasonable in the price range and I think my wife might actually like them.
I did manage to find one picture. Here is a link:

Lots of work ahead of me!

:o When you tear them apart, you TEAR them apart.
I've owned three Toyota pick ups. The only trouble I had was on one of them the coil wire shorted out against the ehaust manifold. I think I drove all of them fron California to Seattle to Wyoming and then back to California. One had a Dolphin mini motor home on it and I drove my mom and aunt up above San Francisco to visit my brother and it worked great.
LOVE TOYOTA PICK UPS. Looking for another one.

The following is some great classifieds. I'm not sure if you have to register to view them or not. Mostly Land Cruisers however other vehicles get listed as well.
