Busted by Mythbusters. Increased fuel use.

I tested this myself in both my gasoline car and my diesel truck. I did the test over three tankfulls and about 1200 miles of driving. I also saw a slight DECREASE in milage for both fuels. I used laboratory grade acetone at 100ml per 10 gallons, and did the testing under my normal driving conditions without any "out of the ordinary" trips.

Similar report here. I gave the guy that drives the mail from "town" to our general store/post office the article on adding acetone to fuel and he gave it an extensive try and got the same results - lower mileage instead of increased mileage... too bad about that, it was to good to be true I guess!

Did the increased mileage offset the cost of the acetone?

Cost of acetone minimal with amount used, but unfortunately there was a decrease in mileage not an increase...

I apologize, I mis-read the results. Just ignore that post. ::)

I use acetone in the diesel tank and the vegetable oil tank at a rate of 4ml per gallon every 6 months to clean the injectors, it seems to work ok , I haven't had any problems so far.
Kind regards...Ron
