Oct. soap can be used for anything. Best flea dip for pets in the world. Shavings in warm water should do the trick. Terry

Yes Octagon Soap is great. Being an all purpose soap, you can use it from laundry to bathing to shampooing with it. My grandmother used it all her married life, (born in 1878) and we still use it. If you can't find the washing soda you can spread baking soda on a cookie sheet and bake it for about 90 min. at 350 and then you will have washing soda. That's how they make it. Washing Soda is sodium carbonate. This is also known as soda ash. I found it in the pool section of the local department store under the brand name "chem plus."

Kroger, in our area sells Arm & Hammer Washing Soda. I'd been searching for it for a couple of years, as it suddenly disappeared from our local stores. Got a tip on another forum about Kroger. Now I have 8 boxes stashed. Plan to pick up 2 more, per trip to Kroger, until I get a good supply tucked away.
I use it in my electrolysis system for cleaning castiron cookware, in addition to other uses. Had been hording the last little bit that I had left, just for that purpose.
Need to pick up some Octagon soap, too. Thanks for the reminder. Also want to stash some Ivory soap, too. Plan to take off the wrappers, put in a basket, and let it cure. Then put back in the wrappers, for long term storage. Another good soap to stash is Lava, if it's still available. I'm been meaning to check on that to put a few bars away.

Edit: Mike, thanks for the link. Bookmarked it to explore, soon.

I've never used octagon soap in place of fels, but I have used Zote. They sell it in most of the groceries around here, but no one carries the fels. And I sometimes have a hard time finding the washing soda also.
