Two weeks ago I picked up an interesting new pistol. It is a Ruger Charger in stainless steel. It is topped with a Bushnell Trophy red/green dot scope and looks like a trijicon. The scope even has a set of fixed iron sights on top so if the battery goes out you have a backup. Accuracy is on par with a 10/22 rifle. I got a spare factory mag to go with it and plan to get some 30 rounders too. I think this is a good pistol for a survival/bugout pack. No it is not as compact as most pistols but I shoot this better than any pistol I have ever had.

Sounds sweet, Tuck!

I saw one when they first came out, but I couldn't really justify buying one, what with the four 10/22's I already have. :p

I want a stainless 10/22 to go with the Charger. I think I have started something. I am going to carry the Charger along while deer hunting this season. Fox squirrel season is same as deer season. I see the most squirrels while deer hunting. This year they better beware. I tried the Charger without the bipod attached and it just feels like a big pistol. That little bit of weight off makes for much better off hand shots.

Good review on the Charger. I've had my eye on them since they came out and plan on getting one in the near future.

Howdy.

About two decades ago a friend of mine envisioned a custom 10/22 with a short barrel and folding stock along with a few high cap mags as being the ultimate national survival rifle; light, affordable, and with cheap, light ammo, it has merit. I certainly like them better than the AR7. I think the Charger is sort of another variation on the same theme. My thoughts are that Ruger is FINALLY responding to the modern marketplace with several of their newest offerings. The Ruger 10/22 Compact probably was intended to be a "smaller" persons rifle, but I like it more than my old standard 10/22. If it was set up as a rapid takedown with a synthetic stock it would make a slick "kit" rifle for boats, aircraft, etc. I think the Charger might do just fine for the same purpose IF you are a pistol person, but most folks seem to be better served with a shoulder stock.OzarksJohn

The Charger is geared more toward the hunter/shooter rather than a worn on the hip pistol. It fills a spot we never knew that we had until it came along. I plan to use mine for squirrel hunting and maybe a little coyote and can popping. The option of being able to use high cap mags adds to Chargers use also. There is a great deal of interest among rimfire shooters in the Charger and accessories are already available with more to come.
Several years ago I had thought of building a simular type weapon from one of those single shot bolt action Cricket rifles. Now there is a Cricket pistol on the market.

I was thinking of the same thing back in the late 70's. Dunno where I came up with the idea though. probably read about it somewhere.

Cool, but not very practical?

Thats it. The Charger fills a spot that we didn't know we had before it came along and does it very well. This is the most fun plinker I have ever owned bar none. I can hit coke cans out to 75 yards with it every time and that is with factory parts. I plan on a trigger upgrade soon. I also want to get a good pistol scope with crosshairs rather than a red dot scope. For my long range shooting I am using a Bushnell 4x rifle scope I want a 4-6 power LER scope. The guys over at rimfire central are building some very accurate Chargers.

Well, maybe cool enough to think up a good reason?
It's not like I don't have a "couple" of "tools" that I need to really get creative on uses...............
(Gone past need, a long time ago)

Fun little pistol. Install a VQ target hammer and your trigger pull will be around 2 1/2 pounds and much more crisp.

I would like to make a case for it to attach to a bug out bag I am thinking about something like one of those zip up pistol cases with an attachment for a MOLE pack. With a pocket on the outside for two 30 round mags.
I mostly use it without the bipod attached so it has a better balance for better off hand shooting.
Thus far the Charger has eaten everything I have fed it from budget Blazer to CCI Stingers, bulk Winchester and Remington. I have about 500 rounds through it now and never a FTE or FTF. Accuracy remains on par with my carbine.
