Hi guys,
Question for all you goat people out there. I have a
buckling that is 7 months old he has had the diarea
since I turned them out on pasture 3 weeks ago.
I have had goats for 4 yrs and they have always been
on pasture. I have wormed him and I turned them for only a few hours at a time to start them on pasture.
THey all were a little loose for the first few days. THen
everyone else got used to the grass and are fine.
He is losing weight and hollers all the time. WHat could
his problem be? ANy ideas would be great.

There is a very long explanation as to why, but the short answer due to the green grass.

Right now the grass is at its peak protein wise. The goat was most likely turned onto the grass too fast too quick. If the animal is eating hay or other feed, and is suddenly turned into a fresh green pasture, its stomach cannot make the switch. The rule here is change feed SLOWLY. Turn the goat out into the pasture for an hour or two at first, then longer each day, giving the animal the same feed from the farm it came off of until 7-8 days or so. That gives it a chance to get used to the new feed.

With all the green feed, its too much protein for his stomach and he has got the scours as it is called, or possibly bloat. I would call the Vet. Either one of these is a life threatening illness.
