Our brown Muscovey duck is "setting" on four eggs in the corner of the front goat shed....now there are also two chicken eggs in the nest, one brown egg and one white one....

Every morning a white chicken is setting on the nest for about four hours....the rest of the time the brown duck sets on the nest....

Since our other batch of ducks now has two "mamas"---their real mama and their three month old sister, we figure these may have two mamas as well, a duck and a chicken...

Is this common or do I just have weird animals????

I don't know if it's weird or not, but it's going to be very "interesting" the first time the chicks hit the water.

they're going to be confused whether they are chucks or dickens!

My Muscovies would do that too when I had them. *Now I have a very determined turkey and hen on the same nest - sort of shouldering each other out.

Mine never hatched with multiple birds setting - hope you have better luck. *I would like to know how it goes.

Edited to add: I think it's because the chicken eggs hatch in 21 days and the turkeys and ducks in 28 that might cause this not to work.

I believe there is also a difference in the temperature maintained by the chicken and the muskovite.
