I am wanting to start making my own bar soap and have read how a stick blender can make it much easier. I have been looking at different types and see that some are made of plastic and some of metal.
Will the plastic ones work OK or will the lye be to caustic and ruin it too quickly? The platic ones are much cheaper so I am hoping to get one of those. Can anyone give me some advice on what kind is the best to use?
Thanks :)
Debbie

Ok, now I am getting confused ??? I have been trying to gather info on soap making and am only getting bits and pieces.
Could someone give me a run down on all of the hardware that you need for soap making. Somewhere I read no metal only ceramic or wooden? The sites I have found are so big that I am losing my place on where I found helpful things. And my computer is so slow lately that I am getting very.... GRRRRR!
I know there is some pros on soapmaking here, HELP please :)

To find step by step directions, go to http://www.mullerslanefarm.com/pictorials.html and you'll find a good tutorial on it. Cyndy Muller makes wonderful soap and is a great resource.

A plastic stick blender will work just fine. The best stick blender you can get will come apart, making it easier to clean; however, I've made soap with everything from a cheap $5 Walgreens stick blender (which gets hot so you have to constantly pause and let the motor cool) to an expensive name brand- all plastic.

Oh good, I was hoping that a plastic one would work. I found a good cheap one on ebay today. yea!
Thank you for the website magnificent, real nice as I work better with pictures. I am more of a sight learner. And there are some other great things on there that I am going to have to check out too.
Now just to figure out if my pots are stainless steel. I guess I just have never thought about it.

I've been using the cheapest stick blender I could find many years ago. I sell soap and this stick blender doesn't clean but since I only use it for soap making, it doesn't matter. I can't imagine going back to plain stiring although, I start out with a stick blender just to get it going and then switch to the good old spoon I use to get it to trace so it doesn't cease on me.
