I have an area on my place that grows real thick grass but has standing water under the grass. Will goats walk in the water to eat the grass? I would have to fence them into the wet area with some dry to not ruin their hoofs from being wet. I want to get some meat/milking goats to keep this wet area cleared. thank you for any information you provide .

In my experience with goats they will walk in standing water to graze and browse. My parents have a pasture fenced off that is 12 acres open field and four acres wetland that joins a state wetland area. The goats spend alot of time in the wetland area browsing. Really, about 75% of the day is spent in the "swamp". The only time they don't go into this area is when it floods and the water is over around a foot deep. I have seen them , along with cows, regulary wade into the ponds on the property eating down the cattails. " The 12 acres of pasture is lush bluegrass and orchard grass."
