Anybody here live in or have knowledge about Texas county, missouri? Like to have a local contact there to discuss where to get the best deals on sawmill lumber, hardware, etc. It would be really nice if I could find (even last year's) phone book from Cabool MO.

I loved the area on my visit. Dad was over 2 miles out of town and still had city water.
Rolling hills, Horse farms, Forests, the State park was nearby, and the fish farm. (Trout!)

Sorry I don't have much more info. That's been a few years back.

I'm still in TN, but moving soon, I hope. I did get a map from the C of C folks, that's about all the help I could get out of them. I know I can do a lot better when I'm there, just trying to get a little ahead of the game.

Thanks for your efforts Mom, I can always do a search for certain businesses online. I'm trying to get as much info together since there won't be any computer at the place for a while after I move. Do you know if there's a place that sells barrels that is closer to Cabool than the one south of W. Plains?

Thanks Missourifree, but plain old barrels for feed and rainwater is what I'd be after. I lived in Douglas co before, but I don't want to have to go to Ava or even Mt Grove for things, just 'cause I know where they are.

hello fello Texas Co. Missouri resident. I have lived here in Texas county for about seven years. Before that, Dent Co and before that Maries Co. Before that San Diego Co, CA . I hope that helps you. I shop locally because I want my money to go there. Raymondville has several saw mills. Many of our neighbors work at some of them. We remodeled our home from a place called the "Wood Mill" right here in the middle of our little town. Friends hardware in Licking has a lot of catalogues you can look in to order any thing they do not have in stock. They dedeliver free or very cheap. There is a new store in Licking that has bulk food and a lot of things for making your own soap and things like that. They are much cleaner and have a much larger variety than Shetler's, but not quite as cheap on some things. I hope that is helpful.

I used to work in the Texas County Library in Cabool. Believe it or not that little library has a lot of help for local members of the community. I think if you go there they might be able to tell you where to get a phone book. I have an old one if you want to come here to get it, but then I would have to give you my address and I think the rules seemed to say not to do that. Maybe if you go to the library you can look in their phone book and it will tell you how to get one.

There is no rule against giving out personal information. What is basically stated in the FAQ's is to use common sense when giving out personal information. As stated, anyone can claim to be anyone. People can and do lie about who they are, where they live, etc.

For your protection, just use common sense and know who it is that you are giving personal information to. We have many members that have formed bonds of friendship, exchanged addresses, phone numbers, etc. We have some members that have met and others that visit one another regularly. We have some members that have traded seed and done other bartering.

So, although there is no rule, the rule of common sense is the one to apply which says to know what you're doing and who it is that's getting your information.

Whenever I give out my address, it is in a PM so that person sees it and not the whole board. Thanks for the offer of a phone book, I got one tho. Thanks everybody for the info. I am still seeking a person with a 4-wheel drive vehicle to make an occasional trip (no more than once a month) with various supplies. Anyone in this area that wants to make a few bucks can PM me about it.
