Bug bites stings

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

With out sounding gross, I would just like to run this by y'all.

Bought one of those "take the itch, sting away pens" at Walgreen's.
(Actually bought two, a name brand and house brand, $1 difference in price but the package was almost the same, but anyway, I digress......

Was working in the brush and was getting bit up pretty good, even with bug spray.

I noticed that the main active ingredient was ammonia in both.

Now I got to thinking that a bottle of plain ammonia cost about a buck (something like that), but a whole lot cheaper than the "pen".

So it should work as well in a 3% solution? (marked on the pen), the bottle from Pic and Save doesn't give a concentration.

Then I took this thought a step further, and got to thinking that urine smells like ammonia, so why wouldn't it work as well if you really couldn't get any of the real things?
(Saw them do this on "Survivor"w/a sting ray sting, 'course it's T.V., so who knows)
Also looked this up and found this.

So maybe when some one tells you to "pi$$ on it", might not be a bad idea?

Ammonia works just fine right out of the bottle, not sure I'd wanna be pi$$ed on tho....

LOL yes ammonia is a cheap sting remover - and so is urine. If you've ever been stung by jellyfish at the beach, "pi$$ on it!" becomes a plea for relief!

However, I do prefer a bottle of ammonia since you don't know what the guy standing next to you is filtering from yesterday...

Are ya'll referring to household ammonia? Heck I'd be willing to use urine. I'm a flea and skeeter magnet.
