Clarksville pastor killed in accident with goat

A Montgomery County pastor was killed Tuesday after authorities said he was attacked by a goat.

Reverend Liston G. Richardson's wife Lucille found her husband's body outside their home of Highway 13 in Clarksville Tuesday afternoon.

She said the rope used to tie up the goat was wrapped around the pastor's neck and feet.

When she tried to get near her husband, she said the goat tried to attack her.

Later, the goat tried to charge EMS workers.

Montgomery County Sheriff's Office spokesman Ted Denny said Richardson was apparently killed by the goat, while attempting to return it to a fenced-in area.

Reports also indicate Richardson, 76, had a heart condition and recently had triple-bypass surgery. That could have contributed to his death.

Denny said the Richardson's son ended up shooting the goat.

Richardson was the minister at Sunnyview Independent Missionary Baptist Church for nearly 30 years.

An autopsy will not be performed.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday and dthen Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Sykes Funeral Home in Clarksville.

Richardson's funeral will take place Friday at 2 p.m.

I got curious when I heard the story on TV. Have been looking around the web, but this seems to be all there is on the story. I thought it might be a buck, but they never said.

Definitely a cautionary tale - especially for those of you breeding - intact males can be dangerous - even roosters.

Regards,
Pat

I wonder if it was a buck goat?? Mine was more cranky during breeding season in Feb. I watch him all the time
since he weighs close to 200 lbs. I have gotten caught
between the three biggest nanny's I have and went for a
ride when Lilly decided she needed the grain pail first.
Of course I read some where carrying a feed pail in the
goat pen is sorta of like a death wish. They look so sweet
but feeding time turns them into raving lunatics. Just an observation you would think the way they fight they hadn't
eatin in days instead of hours. :P

No autopsy? It's possible the man died and the goat rope got wrapped up afterward. I can imagine the goat would also be upset with all the strangers running around specially after dragging a dead body around for a while. How can they assume that the goat killed him without an autopsy?

So let me guess, they are sending the goat to jail to be rehabilitated and hope he can soon become a contributing member of society again. Or did they just destroy him because he was a vicious breed of goat.

Or maybe they will legislate warning labels on all goats ;D
