Anyone have any cross-stitching patterns you can share? Mine were lost in a house fire some years ago.

Firegirl, I respect anyone with the patience to do cross-stitch. I've tried it a few times over the years, think I finally finished one simple design. And, I'm sorry to hear that you had a fire and lost your patterns.:sad:

Have you tried google to see how many free ones are available? Some of the craft's stores have free leaflets. I usually check Michaels every time I go, as my sister loves to cross-stitch, so I collect patterns for her whenever I spot them.

Any particular designs you are looking for? I have lots of books and magazines. I could copy them and email or snail mail to you if you want them. People give me stuff all the time and I would be happy to share.

I found a couple reasonably priced on Ebay, but the shipping is what kills the deal on most items. I like any patterns with chickens, pigs, goats, cows, deer, birds, Bible verses, I also used to have two books with Hymns in them, but they burned in my house fire many years ago. Thanks, firegirl

Firegirl, you know what you want? You want the free software so you can make your own patterns! Here's a link for one, but there are several out there:
http://www.5star-shareware.com/Windows/Hobby/General/pattern-maker.html
I've used several different ones, not for cross stitch, but for other crafts and they're usually quite nice. I believe software for beading would also work, as it gives you the grid and color charts!

Another source (for outline designs) will be coloring books. If you have access to a copier, copy the design onto graph paper - you might have to fiddle with the size percentages to get it like you want it, but once you have any design (even a color photo) copied onto graph paper, you have a cross-stitch pattern!

If there's something in particular you are looking for, let me know and I will make it up and email it to you. (send me a PM if you'd like!)

I have made them with graph paper by hand, no program. The bible verses & hymns would be easy. Write them out on graph paper. I've done them for plastic canvas also.
CarolAnn, The software is cool, thanks for the link.

Here's another site I really like - http://www.marthastewart.com/glitter-painting
You can upload any photo and run it through their on-line software. You end up with a 2-page PDF that looks like a simplified painting of your picture on the first page, and the second page suggests colors to use (glitter colors) - but it would transfer to thread nicely & even suggest colors of thread to use if you can match their glitter palette. I've done several pictures just because they look so cool when run through the program - and I have no intention of painting them with glitter! But I might use the simplified image as a guide to paint with regular paint!

Kodak also has free software that will change any photo to a coloring book outline. These turn out looking like exquisite ink line drawings, and mostly are too detailed to use as a coloring book, but again - it would transfer to a thread pattern nicely!
