I'm interested in what people here think. This is not a thread to discuss. If you want to explain your chioces, then do so, but please do not comment on other people's posts. Otherwise, this will turn into a huge mess. I just want to see your lists. Top, Five, Top Ten, Top Twenty, however many you want.
For myself:
#1-A good brand AR-15 upgraded for enhanced reliability and accuracy.-5.56mm-The Do-All rifle
#2-Springfield M1A-7.62x51mm/.308-A long range heavy hitter that you can still fight with
#3-Winchester 1894 (or similar)-.30-30 or .44 Magnum (personal preference) Perfect brush gun, very quick to the shoulder, excellent for Home Defence
#4-Good brand M1911 (I prefer Kimber)-.45 ACP-You can carry it with you at all times, excellent sidearm
#5-Remington 700/Winchester Model 70-.308 (or .30-06, .270, .243 or whatever you chose)-As a medium-large game hunting rifle, or a long range ranch rifle
#6-Remington 870/Mossberg 500-12ga-A very usefull multi-pourpose tool
#7-Ruger 10/22-.22 LR-Cheap, readily available ammunition/small game hunting
#8-Kel-Tec SUB-2000-9mm-Ultra compact backpacking rifle. Compatability with certain handguns (Although I would choose the Glock version so you can use 33-round magazines)
#9-AK47/AK74-7.62x39mm/5.45x39mm-Stands up well to neglect, usefull as a backup primary rifle. Also usefull in the event a Comblock country invades
#10-Smith & Wesson Model 29-.44 Magnum-Powerfull handgun can be used for hunting, or defence from large animals (bear, mountain lion), or loaded with ratsot for an excellent snake defence gun
#11-Ruger Mini-14-5.56mm-A good rifle, but the cost of and lack of availability of parts and magazines holds it back
#12-M1 Carbine-.30 Carbine-A good rifle for smaller framed people
#13-Tompson Center Contender-Various-Allows you to have many different caliber firearms for relatively low price
#14-Ruger MkI, MkII, or MkIII-.22 LR-Small game hunting/pest controll
#15-Springfield XD45 (with manual safety)-.45 ACP-Excellent sidearm, but lacks the support base of an M1911

DM,
What is that in the picture? I am not familar with it.
Thank you,
It's a 3 bbled hunting gun called a drilling, that i bought over 25 years ago. I've harvested everything from moose and bear on down to rabbits, pheasants, turkeys and about everything else with it over the years, for my freezer.
It was made by Krieghoff in 1935, and is just about the perfect all around hunting gun.

My Great Gandfather had one of those when I was little, not sure of the make but I always wanted it, unfortunately one of my Uncles got it after my Great Grandmother passed away.

Excellent list you came up with Scout, and I've got pretty much the same list (which is probably why I think it's so excellent :) ). I've already got several of the guns in your list, and several of the others are on the to-buy list.
Currently owned (I guess this is my Top 5 list too):
#6-Remington 870-12ga-A very useful multi-purpose tool. I've got an old police model from the mid 60s, very solid and very smooth.
#7-Ruger 10/22-.22 LR-Cheap, readily available ammunition/small game hunting
#8-Kel-Tec SUB-2000-9mm-Ultra compact backpacking rifle. Compatibility with certain handguns (Although I would choose the Glock version so you can use 33-round magazines). I've got the Glock version with 2 33-round mags, and it goes with me in my backpack and truck.
#9-AK47/AK74-7.62x39mm/5.45x39mm-Stands up well to neglect, useful as a backup primary rifle. Also useful in the event a Comblock country invades
#15-Springfield XD9 (with manual safety)-9mm-Excellent sidearm (sorry, had to change calibers on this one, but the XD is a great pistol. I've put nearly 2000 rounds through mine and had NO failures)
To-buy list (in planned order of acquisition, and this would round out my Top 12 list):
#3-Winchester 1894 (or similar)-.30-30 - I found a nice carbine model built in the 40s at a local gun shop, but they want $750 for it.
#5-Remington 700/Winchester Model 70-.308 (or .30-06, .270, .243 or whatever you chose)- My long range rifle option, at least until I can get a nice Springfield M1A or other M14 replica.
#14-Ruger MkI, MkII, or MkIII-.22 LR-Small game hunting/pest control
#1-A good brand AR-15 upgraded for enhanced reliability and accuracy.-5.56mm-The Do-All rifle
#2-Springfield M1A or other M14 replica (LRB is what I really want)-7.62x51mm/.308-A long range heavy hitter that you can still fight with
#4-Good brand M1911 -.45 ACP-You can carry it with you at all times, excellent sidearm
My #12 isn't on your list, and it should actually be #6 in my currently owned list:
Saiga 12 - Rapid cycling semi-auto 12 gauge, detachable magazines, AK reliability.

Now that's Cool!
Krieghoff, a 3 bbled hunting gun called a drilling 1935.
The closest thing to it I could find was the Africa Drilling:

My father had a Stevens 410, with .22 barrel on top. Great for small game.

Congrats.
I am kicking my self for not grabbing a couple of bars, as we used to order 40000 lbs at a time for a metal wire treating process.
Every day the guys would skim off the "slag" and load in a couple of 100 lb bars.
I used to carry around a couple of bars in the back of my van for "winter weight", but always brought them back at the end of winter.
Oh well.
Anyway, I am considering adding a flint lock rifle to the the mix as primers for just about everything are still in short supply.

What do you use when you run out of bullets??
Inherent in the concept of having a "survival battery" is the concept of an ammo stash, spare parts for the repair and maintenence of the battery's components, spare magazines as well as the capability to produce (reproduce?) one's own supply of ammo.
A single gun and five boxes of ammo and your question is valid and proof of a total lack of seriousness on the whole subject on the part of the person who calls that a "survival battery."

The great die off of millions of the unprepared will leave many, many materials around to be picked up.
Well in movies anyway.

I like it simple and light. I have a 22 and a 17 HMR. For a long time, I have been thinking that's enought, but a 20 ga shot gun might be a better choice ( I don't like getting kicked in the shoulder), I'm less likely to miss a rabbit or squirrel with a shot gun.
As for any other uses, I'd rather carry extra food, or a shovel to dig myself a hole.
Ideally I would like to have a few dozen AR-15s and AK-47s scattered across the land in a few hundred mile radius from where I am at. Along with a few thousand rounds of ammo at each location. Realistically, since the scenario for needing that is very remote, and the funds to do it are even more remote, I will take whatever is in my hand at the time. Most likely my Marlin .30-30 or my AR-15. Possibly one of my shotguns. I almost always have my Glock 26 with me, so I am quite sure that will be the handgun of choice. I would like to invest more in black powder, currently I only have a single rifle, and it is an inline, so the primers may be a bit of an issue.
