I have raised this hog on alot of apples lettuce and vgetables and supplemented with some commercial feed. What is the best way to feed them for the last month. It is approaching the 175 lb region.

Hi I just joined this forum today. I guess there are many opinions on the best way to finish off a hog. I think one of the first things to do is eliminate any strong-smelling foods that may alter the taste of the meat. Onions, fish, acorns, garlic are the first ones that come to mind. The second goal is to make sure and feed it stuff that results in a good "finish" as far as amount of fat to lean, etc. In my opinion that is corn. Oats are good too. So is alfalfa hay and probably other stuff im not thinking of. oh yea field peas provide a good finish. in my opinion, barley does not. The last thing is lots of good fresh water during the final weeks. Hope it goes well.
