I'm with ya Kevin. I can't wait. Got the 20gauge and the .22 ready. Squirrel hunting is alot of fun Gump. Takes skill, steady aim, all the things you need with deer, but alot easier to get it out of the woods

Just being in woods bring back so many memories from past hunts,
Watching early moring sun raises as the woods comes alive gold from hickory tree leaves crimson color of maple leaves.
Russeling of leafs as squirrels gather there fall crops, while squirrel hunting get to be able to pattern deer movement for bow season.

Squirrel stew and fried potatoes, baby! With okra, of-course.
Do you folks that fish know that Mepp's will buy/trade your tails for lures?

Our squirrel season here (KY) opened Aug. 15th. TOO hot and muggy to be out yet, at least for me. Even at 7:00 A.M.
I haven't been squirrel hunting for a number of years, but I'm planning on getting back after 'em this year. Gotta check the old 10/22 to see if she can still put 'em in the pot.:)
Or, maybe that old Marlin .22 Mag.....Hmmmmmmm.....;)

Opens here on Sept. 1st. Gotta check the 22 tomorrow and go look around the old places. I love squirrel and hope to keep the freezer full, but season is always a good excuse for that early season "get the hell outta the house" time to wander around the woods. Most days I don't really care much if I get any as long as I'm out.

Our squirrel season is June 1 to Feb 28. One time I shot a squirrel to cook. We didn't have squirrels where I was raised. Anyway, when I got it skinned, it looked just like a rat I had dissected in school.... couldn't bring myself to eat no rat. lol... however, I keep thinking I'll give it another try. I have an OLD cookbook that has a couple of squirrel recipes in it... Maybe I will try it again and just remind myself that people in other parts of the world eat and live on rats. lol

I love chicken fried squirrel with brown gravey, fried taters, and biscuits! Top off with sweet tea, and man is that living! Just add 1/2 cup of whiskey to the pan and steam covered for 15 mins or so. Food too good for anyone but a working man.
