Have to say, about the only thing black powder I have been thinking about lately is an inline, 209 primed, shot gun. In 12 gauge I think would be preferred.

My thinking they would be cheaper, I know an inline 50 cal. is $139oo new. They would be versatile, any 12 gauge wad, Foster slugs, buckshot would be usable.

I know they make BP doubles, but they are too expensive.

Anyone have info on something like this for a tightwad......... ?

It's not necessary to have a black powder shot gun to shoot black powder out of it.
I purchased a BP db shot gun from a guy that was shooting in a league.

The front stuffer, was taking too long to load in a round of 25, ( thought that was the point), so they were converting to more modern, with 12 ga shells loaded with BP.
Later traded the shotgun for a .44 mag Dan Wesson

Anyway, the point would be that if you have a shotgun, I guess a SS or DB would be better, as BP is corrosive, you can load them with BP and make them shoot.
Here is some pretty good info.

I wouldn't shoot shot out of a .50 cal rifle unless I was really desperate
