View Full Version : Fatty lumps and ulcers in dogs

My dog has been having stomach problems. The vet is treating her for an ulcer. The meds seem to help but today she seems a bit uncomfortable. The odd thing I noticed is that she has had a fatty tumor on her side for like 10-12 years. It grew huge over that time, from like a grape to the point where it covered her whole side and went under and covered half her belly. I noticed the past week that it is shrinking. It now fits in the palm of my hand and I can feel her whole belly. Just a few weeks ago when the vet tried to check her for the stomach problems all he could feel was a mass. Now most of it's gone. And about 3 weeks ago the tumor (cancerous) on my dog's head turned to mush and flattened out. The vet said he thinks a big part of it died off. I found some stuff in the shed that I think is killing all the ants by the shed. I doubt the stuff would be getting rid of tumors but wonder if it's causing the stomach problem or if the stomach problem has something to do with the tumor shrinking. I am treating the one dog with supplements to try to shrink the tumor on his head and in his sinus's but I'm not giving the other dog anything and hers is shrinking too. What's your thoughts on this? Anyone else have a dog with a fatty tumor or an ulcer? How did you treat it? Did you get good results?

Could she be eating the droppings from the dog you are treating and getting some of the same recycled medication?

Fatty lipoma tumors are not dangerous. Even if they get big they aren't really dangerous unless they interfere with movement or breathing.

No. She doesn't eat poop. And I watch him eat all his food so she doesn't get it. He does have some supplements in his water bowl but she doesn't drink out of it. She must not like the taste. I was only giving the water with supplements at first so she did get some, but then I thought maybe that's what was upsetting her stomach so I put plain water out for her. She knows which bowl to drink from. He seems to be the only one of the 4 that drinks out of the bowl with the supplements. Maybe he just senses he needs it. Could be it started to work on her too when she was drinking it. She was only getting 3 of the 6 supplements that way though and only for a short time. I would think it would have shrunk while she was taking them rather than weeks later, but who knows...

That's why I never had it removed. I expected it would keep growing so was a bit surprised when it started to shrink:)!

It's possible. I am amazed at what simple vitamins and minerals/herbs can do for people. I started going to an alternative practitioner when my friend who has cancer chose one. I have seen people die who weren't as ill as my friend when she first went. Simple vitamins are much better than chemo without the suffering. My sister is doing the whole chemo/radiation/surgery thing. She spends more time in the hospital than out, and has a chest tube plus oxygen 24/7. My friend who chose the natural approach still goes to the track every day, and rarely coughs. And she was in third stage cancer when they found it while my sister only had a tiny spot in her lungs. I believe with all my heart that the chemo kills rather than the cancer. I have no doubt that my friend who chose the natural approach will outlive my sister who chose to do everything the doctor's recommended. And she is suffering while she dies. So sad.

Sorry to hear about your sister and your friend. I think chemo kills too. But you just can't convince some people. Hope your sister and friend both come thru it ok.

My old (ancient) dog has had fatty tumours and a couple of cancerous growths for the past five years. They come and go. It seems to me that if I pay special attention to a new and worrisome lump, it disappears again sooner. Maybe imagination, maybe from touching it, the circulation and immune system around the spot gets a bit busier...I don't know.

That's interesting. I always figure if I ignore it, it will go away:).
