Maybe they are being Nationalistic? Longest shot in Afghanistan made by a Briton. Course the same papers will go on about how an Englishman did something exceptional, then attribute it to a Briton,if the individual is Welsh, Scottish, or Irish.
Maybe they mean currently serving? After all Mr. Furlong left the Canadian forces after all the Legal inquiries.

Furlong left the Forces after being so shamefully treated by the upper ranks, makes me sick and i am a member of the Forces. he is also a Newfoundlander like me, just PO's me even more. that british soldier made a hell of a shot. 1500 meters. still not 2500 meters. i read an article about that shot and Furlong said that he and his friends would put a fish on a plank in the beach, wait for the flys to show up, didn't take long and shoot the flys on the wing with pellet guns and that's how he got started shooting. brings back memories, not of shooting with him but of roaming the beaches and shooting beach rats, old floats that wash up from old nets etc.

Either way, God bless all of them! Great job for the good guys, and damn the politicians in and out of uniform!

Back in the 1830's up till about the 1970's marksmenship was really big in Afghanistan as far as the Afghans being known as marksmen. Then they got ahold of the AK-47.
If any of you like to read, read about the Military history of Afghanistan and how the Afghans used the Jezail Musket. The British didnt seem to like it!
