Glad to hear that you've finally nailed down that signing date. It's going to fly by now as you get the rest of your packing done and work on getting the things you're going to want/do with/for your new home.

Still waiting with you for that post that says "i've got the keys!".

Congratulations, Leera! I'm so happy for you!

Now, as you'll be moving soon, get a little box together with: a roll of toilet paper, a roll of paper towels, a short list of phone numbers, some wasp spray, a light bulb, a box knife, a couple of bandaids, some paper and a pen, a tape measure, a hammer & screwdriver . . . you get the picture! Just an assortment of emergency stuff that you can take in with you & put somewhere before the BIG move starts - so you can find it when you need it! (It'll be your Bug IN bag!) :)

CarolAnn,you're too funny....

The big move will start Friday as soon as I get home from work.

I am going to go in Thursday after I take hubby to work and clean all the counters and sinks.etc.......the utilities are all already on and set to be transferred to my name on Thursday,so there's no waiting there...

If I have time I will probably get at least one car load moved while hubby is at work.

A friend of ours is going to bring over his big trailer so we can load it up and make a LOT less trips...So between his trailer,Mom and Dad's trucks and dad's trailer, our truck and station wagon,we should be pretty well set.

Can't use the trailer we picked up,as we have not gotten the part we need to fix the wheel yet....LOL......

Here are some recommendations.

Bright colored tape. Black tape means storage, red tape kitchen, blue tape bathroom, yellow tape bedroom.

Set aside one pile of essentials.
A few spares of clothes, pots and pans for the kitchen, sheets, blankets, and pillows for the bedroom, towels, wash cloths, and TP for the bathroom. Set them aside in a pile with a do not move sign or have them loaded into say your station wagon. This should get you by for the first couple of days while you unpack all the boxes and find everything a new place.

Pack up all those papers so they are not separated. House, bank, insurance, everything that went into closing the deal. A fire proof box would of course be better.

Spare keys. Gather them up and put them together now in one spot, these have an unnatural ability to find a way into separate boxes.

If something has a cord, tape the cord to the item. I have some items I would love to use but, the cord is in a different box somewhere.

Take some pictures of the State of the Home now, before everything is moved in there. It is your baseline for anything, if you need to use homeowners insurance later.

Thanks for the info..

Everything that is packed is labeled on all sides of the box in giant print....We've been slowly packing since the day our offer was accepted.I hadn't thought about colored tape....that would have been a good idea.

While we were packing,we left three days worth of clothes out,and have not packed the kitchen yet, only because we cook daily and ran out of room to stack packed boxes.

Oddly enough I have already taken pictures of the interior, exterior and garage....was using them to show friends/family......

The next item on my household wish list is a woodburing stove....the chimeny is already there....they took the stove when they moved out apparently......and there are three trees that need cut down....

Hey NCLee!!! Yes,I've got the keys!!

We moved three car loads of stuff yesterday,we can fit nearly a pick up load worth of boxes in the back of my little station wagon.

The real estate company we bought the house through is offering free use of a moving van for two days,so we will be using that to move all the furnshings and appliances next week.

It's raining pretty hard this morning,so I don't think we'll be moving anything before I have to go to work today.

YAHOO!!!!!

I'm doing a happy dance right here just for you! I could hear the key's jingling all the way to here when you got them.

Hope your move goes smoothly.

Other than the things you've gotta have, take your time with unpacking. That'll give you thinking time about where you want to put things.

Again,

YAHOO!!!

THANKS!!!!! And thank you to all who have kept your fingers crossed for us!

The only things I'm in a hurry about are food/clothes,and getting the garden area prepped before winter....my old tiller has been sitting long enough,it needs to be used.

My Dad is going to come over and take down the three trees that are dying. We'll keep the wood though, all we need is to find a good deal on a woodburning stove....

We are officailly moved in,not unpacked, but moved in.....was offline for a few days while the phone and such was transfered here.

I can't find my shoes for work....can't hook the dryer up....so HAVE to get my clothes line up ASAP....the hook up for the gas stove is different than what our stove is,so have to find the time to get the parts to remedy that....cooking by way of camp stove and grill for now.....LOL.......my stash of fuel for the camp stoves is coming in handy....

Hang in there!

You'll get it all squared away soon. And, probably a heck of a lot faster than we did when we first moved out here. Due to a electrical contractor foul-up we cooked on a campstove for about a month. We really did 'camp" for that long. Because we didn't have electricity, we didn't have water either.

Just think.... if all works out, this may be the last time you ever have to mess with unpacking boxes, hooking up stoves, and such. Won't say, however, that it'll be the last time you go hunting for your work shoes. :)

Hoping everything else goes smoothly for you as you get settled in.

Leera,

I have a suggestion. Why don't you start a thread in Homesteading and document your progress with your new place similar to what Dave is doing. I think it would be great others to see what you are doing from day one, because I know that others share in your excitement.

I laughed when I read that. We moved into our home/homestead finally after months of work. I had to leave right after we moved to go up north.
When I came back the family had sort of organized w/o my help--and since I'm 'mom' you know.. not so well.

Anyhow things were stressy after the move. one day I was at work and my co-workers saw that I had 2 different shoes on! They were both tennis shoes so that's something I guess.
