If a dog's gums are pale and then go pink and then pale again. Can the dog be anemic? Or would they just stay pale? And could dark tarry stools be caused from eating fatty hamburger meat? I took her to the vet today and they did bloodwork. They said her gums were pale. They were while we were there but were a bright pink when we got home. Then later they were a little pale again, not as pale as at the vets I don't think though. She had a lot of vomiting last night but I have been giving her fatty hamburger meat. I boiled it and rinsed it so I thought it would be ok but she hasn't eaten that in a while. Her stools have been normal, only a small part of one was tarry yesterday and then the one today. She seems to have an appetite but only if you give her what she wants:). She was sick of chicken I guess so I gave her the hamburger and she ate that. She wants dry dog food too but she threw it up so I haven't been giving it to her. She's on meds for what they think is an ulcer. She's been doing well but we took her off the pepcid and then I fed her that beef then she got real sick with the vomiting. They gave her a shot and she's going back on both meds tonight. I'm hoping the pink gums was a good sign. Please, no horror stories. I'm looking for some hopeful answers here. I'm a nervous wreck. She seems to get sick when I'm stressed so I'm trying to fake it like nothing's wrong. I've been cleaning house and that seemed to stress her. I was unpacking boxes. I think she thinks I was packing and we're moving again(we're not). Plus we had a refrigerator brought in. And I was upset with my aunt yesterday. Any hopeful words anyone would like to offer?

No matter your stress--act as if its alright and talk to the pup cause they like reassurances also. Your voice is soothing to the dog so talk--
When unpacking talk and let the 'pup' know that 'we are home--we arent going anywhere--its gonna be okay" They understand far better than we sometimes give them credit for. The sounds of our voice tells them all they need to know most often.
Fatty meat probably didnt sit to well in its tummy along with the stress.
This may sound wierd but brother before he passed always put ice cubes in his dogs water bowl especially in the summer. When Gene passed in Ind our aunt Kate took Mitzy home to keep. A day went by and she called me--'Jack, Mitzy wont drink--what can I do?'
Asked her about the ice--voila--problem solved--ha. Hey--what can I say--we say we dont BUT our pets are spoiled most of the time.

Did they run a parvo snap test for you? And did they consider parasites like worms or even fleas?

She does seem to read my mind at times, especially when I would think BATH:). The fatty meat didn't help her at all. She's hospitalized since yesterday. Pancreantitis. I visited with her yesterday after they gave her fluids and she looked like herself again. Up and perky! She couldn't even lift her head by the time they let me bring her in. (They were waiting for an ok on payment from some people that are going to help pay the bill.) I'm going to visit today. They said she did well thru the night. Her kidney values or whatever were high but they said they think it's from the pancreantitis and that sometimes that will reverse after the pancreas settles down. Keep her in your prayers. Thanks.
